TSSAA stupid Playoff system

I with jimed 1 the Fulton and Greenville game will be fun to watch. High scoring game. Coach Black has a very good team again this year with a lot of speed all over the field. Also playing great on the D side of the ball. The winner of this game should be the state champs

My personal gripe about TSSAA is that the title games are at that dump of a stadium at Tennessee Tech. I really wish they would move it back to Vandy or Middle Tenn in the 'boro. Of course if we aren't in the title game then I don't care..:)

How about McMinn County and Bradley County...McMinn Beat Bradley head to head (not even close either) and both finished with same record, overall and district, and Bradley got in and McMinn didn't...I know neither would have made a dent...but still that's idiotic

According to the TSSAA website Bradley Central was 5-5 and McMinn County was 4-6. Even though McMinn was 3-3 in district and Bradley was 2-4 overall wins is the first thing that determines the wild card teams.

Once the playoff teams are determined the teams are placed in the 4 quads from east to west (the 4 teams furthest east in quad 1, etc.).Although I don't think many know how they determine how the teams from the midstate are placed in the bracket. I would much rather the bracket be split into halves seeded 1-16 instead of quads seeded 1-8. It would create more travel for some teams but it would prevent the better teams from meeting in the 2nd round.

I don't know how true this is but I have heard that there is overwhelming support from the coaches to abandon this system and go back to the old system.

good info. what was the old system? top to bottom seeding across the whole state?

Instead of 16 districts in 3 classes there were 8 regions in 5 classes. Top 4 teams from each region made the playoffs. Region 1 played against region 2, Region 3 played 4 and so on and so forth. 1 seed vs 4 seed from the opposite region and 2 seed vs 3 seed from the opposite region. People frequently complained that teams with 2 or 3 wins in terrible regions would make the playoff.

That also had a lot to do with that there were some regions that only had 5 or 6 teams. It is similar to what we have now where Boyd-Buchanan plays won a 4 team district and received a 2 seed with a 4-6 record. If I'm not mistaken there was a team in Memphis that was a 2 or 3 seed and had a 3-7 record.

Why not at Neyland?

Why not at Neyland?

I doubt Neyland would be considered since it's easier for schools and fans from West TN to travel to Murfreesboro, Nashville, and even Cookeville than Knoxville. It would be neat to have them there though.

Why not in the NFL stadium in Nashville? Other states play their championship games in NFL stadiums?

If they did half the teams would only drive 20 mins to the game.

It would be nice for those schools, but on the other side of the coin is a 6+ hour drive for teams coming out of certain parts of West TN (if they make it.) I like tds8840's question about having the games at LP Field. That would also be a nice place to watch them at.

It would be nice, especially if LP had a roof because Tennessee HS football isn't very popular like in some states and a lot of people aren't going to sit in the rain or cold unless they have a team, and usually even a player in it. I think it would be a good thing though, and maybe even help boost the attendance.

One thing that works against it being at LP field is it gets destroyed if it's wet,and you know how many NFL team owners would be with a bunch of million dollar a year players on a field that has been torn up by a slew of HS teams.I believe it was the Pittsburgh Steelers field that was done that way a few years ago by the HS teams.Another thing is the Titans ownership have a contract with the City/state and of course they don't have any real Tennessee connection like they do Texas.
