Tucker and Dunbar

I just feel the players in front her are better. Sometimes you have to wait until its your time.

That is the same dilemma that Sydney Smallbone faced for four years and her time never came. You gotta be realistic...Dunbar was only ranked in the 80's and is primarily known as a 3-point specialist. Just saying...

yeah prolly better than smallbone but that still don't make her better than the players in front of her this and next year. I would red shirt, myself.

Our offense will get better.

I think if Holly has the presence of mind she can develop Dunbar into a player like Natalie Achonwa of Notre Dame last year, a four who has ball skills and who can pass and shoot threes.

Dunbar needs to go the video guy and say,I need all the film you have on Abby Conklin and Sidney Spencer. Red shirt would do her some good, then she doesn't have to waste a year of eligibility.

I hope we start using the redshirt year more to help players develop.

Dude, Anchonwa was a Canadian NATIONAL player, and in the top seven of the rotation from the get go. Plus, she always had some meat on her bones, not to mention a very nice DONK. In the end, Anchonwa was one of the top players at her position nationally. And for the record Anchonwa was NOT a three-point shooter. Don't even start to compare Dunbar with Anchonwa. Stick with the Dunbar vs. Smallbone comparisons and you will be fine!

Dunbar will play more than whoever is that far down the roster at UConn, or at most schools for that matter.

We will have to wait and see how much she can help. As thin as we are in the post if she can develop and get playing time there or she can come in when we need to hit some outside shots. Every team has a player like that. We just don't seem to use one much in that role.

It is tough for a girl who is 6-2 with her size to try to defend a guard. That is why I think put her at the 4. I think she would be a great 4. Superior ball skills and passing ability. And, can go outside and shoot.

I could see Dunbar and Jasmine playing heavy minutes at the 4 next season...

Dude, Canada is only a country of 35 million people. Dunbar's state Illinois has 13 million. So, not a drastic difference. Also, ND didn't have as deep a team. And, I'm not saying she would be as good as Achonwa or Stewart of UCONN but more in that mold. Achonwa had great ball skills, great passer and I think Dunbar if not as good could be close to her level. And, if she could go out and shoot a three even better. I just don't see her as a guard. More a three or a four. Better a four. You don't agree?

Also, Dunbar chose us over Baylor and Louisville. So, she's no slouch. The thing I find intriguing about Dunbar is she is not our normal kind of recruit. She has more ball skills and less athletic skills. We need these kinds of players too.

In what universe did Achonwa ever shoot 3s? Certainly not this one.

OK, I was wrong about that but makes my point even stronger. That makes Dunbar even potentially more valuable. More like Stewart. A three shooting 4.

I haven't seen that much of Dunbar, but she seems likely to play the 3 or the 4 spot. I doubt she can play guard-not quick enough. UT certainly needs a winger who can make 10-20 footers dependably. Right now, at the 3-4 we have Graves, Jones, Burdick and Nared, all of whom have good size and athleticism and are fairly effective on defense. But not of them is good offensively--which combined with our average passing is why we have a mediocre offense. Burdick is one of our best rebounders and has a pretty good jumper but her shooting is inconsistent; Graves is starting to shoot a little but gets most of her points off of rebounds or at the foul line; Jones is one of our best athletes and defenders but has issues with her decision-making and ball-handling and commits far too many turnovers; and Nared looks to have potential, moves well, but has not shot well so far. If Dunbar shows she can play defense, her minutes may go up, though she strikes me as someone who'd do better in a system where there is more picking by everybody in an effort to free up shooters. I'm not a big fan of the weave system that UT runs a lot, because it doesn't work all that well and there isn't a lot of player movement (instead there is a lot of passing around the 3-point arc, but for some reason our coaches stick with it. Dunbar will get her opportunities--she just started her freshman year.
