Turner Gil posted a better record than Derek Dooley from '07-'09 and earned a conference championship at a program that is traditionally far worse than LA Tech.

Turner Gill is a decent football coach. He took Buffalo to a conference championship, and took them out of the college football cellar.

Not that the conference title is that fair of a measure -- Hawaii and Boise have both been killers in that time frame, and the best Dooley did is finish in a 3-way tie for 2nd place.

Agreed. What he accomplished at Buffalo was a big deal.

Dooley's time at LA Tech was not.

Buffalo was an absolute train wreck when Gill took over, a metaphor that transfers pretty well to the situation at Kansas now. He'll improve the situation there, no doubt.

On a historical scale, Dooley's tenure there was fairly average. 17-20 over a 3 year period is right about where LA Tech places in 1-A/FBS football.

Turner Gill turned a team that was 4-31 in the 3 years prior to his arrival into a conference champion in 3 years. Also, prior to Gill's arrival at Buffalo, the Bulls were recording double digit losses to teams like Lehigh and Colgate.

Kansas quit on Gil.

Mangino did NOT leave a bare cupboard.

Gil has lost his team. Kansas State is not that good and they just beat Kansas like a freaking drum. Gil has embarrassed the program this year. If Dooley lost to UAB by 60 and lost to UT Martin but did manage to beat LSU he would be Turner Gill this year.

You are insane if you believe that. Kansas is switching from a passing spread to a pro style offense, so that's another factor.

And lol and Kansas State being "not that good". They're getting back to where they were during the first Bill Snyder run.

Wait a second here.

Did you just say that Kansas State = UAB?

If you think against those teams that those scores show a great team, you really just know nothing about college football.

The idiocy of the Gil defenders in this thread is laughable.

Kansas State is nowhere close to a juggernaut this year, and they rolled Kansas because Gil has lost his team.

A likely best case scenario for Gil is that he has 4 wins this year.

North Dakota State?
Baylor?
Georgia Tech does not suck, and Kansas is not terrible personnel wise.
Ryan Murphy, Jocques Crawford, Nathan D'Cunha, Quintin Woods, Toben Opurun, Bradley McDougald, Prinz Kande.

All of those guys suck I guess...

Baylor or Southern Miss, take your pick.

You can try to defend Turner Gil, but it will not be based on anything he has done as a coach this year at Kansas except shocking GT.

If Dooley beat LSU, it may have created unrealistic expectations. If he turned around and lost to Memphis it would be the kind of debacle that Gil has.

The fact that you defend Dooley, yet try and demonize Turner Gill as a bad coach is laughable.

Kansas has nothing. Nothing. The talent he has there would make Tennessee look awesome by comparison. And you think I'm crazy for saying that, but at least Tennessee's got a few pieces of talent. KU's QB situation has been in limbo for the first few weeks as well.

Fact is, this isn't even close to the same team that Mark Mangino had 3 years ago, or even last year for that matter.

How do you know he has lost his team? Why do you give no credit for turning around Buffalo?

Nobody said K-State was a great team, but their only loss is to a top 5 team. They also beat a team that smoked Texas on the road.

You are the one who looks like a moron in this thread.

maybe the one good buffalo year was a fluke. his record last year wasn't exactly great.

The coach preceding Gil at Buffalo went 8-39 there, was shut out an average of over once per year, and lost to Lehigh and Colgate in consecutive years by a combined 34 points.
