@82_VOL_83, I watched the Flying Through Time episode about the F-15. Though it notes the importance of Lockheed’s heavily modified F104 called the Lancer, it contends that the F20 was a top contender and notes the role of the F5 in testing the F-15’s dogfighting capabilities. The series is available on Prime.
