"The One For Me": Evil Spinoff Series Idea Gets Positive Response From CreatorsI hope someone else picks it up. We'll get to see the last episode on Saturday.
Just got back from watching this with my son. Absolute, grand slam. They hit it out of the park. If you loved Alien (1979) and Aliens (1986) but consider everything since "iffy" this is the movie for you. Pretend everything but first 2 and Prometheus didn't happen.....and enjoy the ride. Instant top 3 of Alien films, and it maybe even dethrones my 2nd favorite in series. . Boy and I enjoyed this! Be warned though this is more horror "Alien" like then action like "Aliens" somewhere in between those two ....it does NOT hold back and is brutal. It also takes the most twisted of H.R. Giger stuff and ups it a notch not for feint of heart or squimish. This gets dark. Acting I thought was genuinely good, and better then expected, and whoever did the sound needs to win an award. The 3d sound scape was insane. Just my take, and I have hated pretty much every other alien franchise movie except 1, 2 and Prometheus... Thrill ride all the way..and special effects like the best of Gravity all the way through. 8-9 out of 10 for me.
Absolutely watch Alien first....this takes place between Alien and Aliens 2 I beleive. I might be wrong and it might take place after Aliens 2 or at the same time. It references the first movie heavily though. At minimum watch the first. I had already watched 1-4 and Prometheus with the boy....i dunno if that makes me a bad parent or not.. LOL He once said "Aliens is kinda a Jurassic Park vibe.....but with glow up" I am still trying to decipher. But I think that means it is cool.I want to go see it with my son. Should he watch the Original Alien movie before? Does it add any context?
Oh and just some other info that I think explains why it is awesome. The original practical effect crew from Aliens did the practical effects in this they used real sets, and puppetry whenever possible and only used CGI when they had to. So it feels more like older ones. It looks more "real". Also most of those guys are in their prime and all own their own sfx companies etc...so they effectively got a bunch of company heads of special effects and made a dream team. The sound scape is next level. Which makes this worth seeing in a theater, unless you have a killer surround sound home theater. If you do this will be a great movie to buy later to showcase it....for those os us who nerd over such things. If there is a movie award for sound design and effects this needs to win. Just my own opinion, and I am a big Aliens fan (except 3-5) Oh and last note I think this movie is also setting up a tv series....I think they plan to do Aliens Earth on TV in 2025. This move expands the "lore" and I think is setting up future possibilities. It also deep dives H.R. Giger...some of his other twisted artwork we haven't seen before in series....but makes sense. I think this may be why some people didn't like this? They clearly never had a table copy of the Necronomicon Giger Compendium.....I don't want to say anything beyond that and be a spoiler....but if you know his art it's just that much more extra. It gets disturbing.... in a good way for horror. I think some millenials-Z were unprepared.I want to go see it with my son. Should he watch the Original Alien movie before? Does it add any context?
