So after trading in my iPhone 12 for an iPhone 16+ (bigger screen! More real estate!) I signed up for 3 free months of Apple TV+ to watch Slow Horses. We’ve read through the books of Slough House/Slow Horses, and now we’re watching the series.
Lots of changes to the original books, but they make (probably) necessary changes to fill in backstory and to make Jackson Lamb less loathsome. But Diana Travener is much less nuanced (and therefore less interesting) than in the books; purely evil, not (maybe misguidingly) just trying to save her service (MI5.) Casting Kristin Scott Thomas as Lady Di (not that one) was genius; also Gary Oldham as the endlessly delightful/loathsome Jackson Lamb. (The TV series humanized him WAY sooner than the books did.)
4+++++/5 (5/5 if I weren’t so prissy about the books) - great suspense, drama, and A LOT of dark comedy.
Should add: if you like to read incredibly funny, dark, literate, well-written books, hit up your library and read these (author: Mick Herron.) He’s written other series as well.
