TV, movies, music, Books and whatnot.

The math can be problematic when doing the generations. For example, my grandmother was born in 1898 and was 38 when she had my mother. Mom was 30 when I was born. So technically, my grandmother would have been old enough to have been my great grandmother.

Rocy says James (Tim McGraw) is John's (Kevin Costner) great great grandfather. Which I have never argued.

But for some reason I can't make the math work in my head.

I don't care anyway, now that I know it's not the way I thought it would be cooler.

In S1 in the Cattlemen's Association speech late in the season, John says "great grandfather." That is crystal clear. James is John's great grandfather without question, or am I missing something?
I was just curious about the Coleman character with the math.
Edit: and I think a lot of my curiosity stems from the fact that I think Costner was supposed to be in his 30s or 40s in that scene. Maybe it's the makeup or something. I don't know. Ha

I think that's an extra generation in there.
Let's say John was born in the 1950s. His children are grown. Beth is in her late 30s, according to the series--I think in S1 or S2 she or another character said 38, and she was the third child born.
It is perfectly reasonable that John's father was born in the 1920s, and his grandfather in the 1880s or even a little earlier.
But IDK either. I just know that John says his "great grandfather" in that speech.

Edit: and I will add that I have only watched I think three episodes of 1883. I watched the first couple, watched YS, then went back and watched I think one more.

James is great grandfather.

I haven't been able to get into Justified yet. I know I will, I'll just have to wait until it hits me right.

Let me look it up. I lose track it might be season 4. Either way they just confirmed the next season
Yeah there's only 2 season listed. I just thought there were 2 period and it was done. That's what I get for not checking.
No biggie, I just didn't want to start another one that I'd get into then have to wait for more. Lol. 3 is enough.
