I have a hard time imagining that universities that hired these coaches would be in trouble. The coaches themselves should probably expect to be shown the door. But don't see how you can blame 'bama or UF or L'ville for sins a new coach committed somewhere else.
The players surely face eligibility issues and suspensions. But again, if they participated in a recruiting violation somewhere else, and ended up at your school, how is that your problem?
The suspicion of course is that if they accepted stuff while visiting Miami then they probably did at UF or 'bama. I don;t have a problem with the schools or the NCAA checking into that. Makes sense to ask. But barring some sort of evidence that they got illicit things while being recruited to those schools, I don;t think you can tag the schools they end up at with what happened elsewhere.
I would think there to be more of a problem if the school DOESN'T check into it. I know if I were a bama fan, I would want the coach/coaches involved fired. And it cant be too soon.
As a Michigan State fan, I want some internal investigation done to make sure that the jerk didnt do any of that when he was an assistant at MSU.
Sucks, any way you look at it.
Or...
Saban: Hey. You're fired.
End of story.
It's amazing how desperate people here are to be the one "superstar snitch" on Bama. Some of the overanalysis is getting painful to read.
I'm convinced that every coach with a tie to this story will be fired by his current school. But it can't be done two days after the story came out. If the schools genuinely didn't know about this stuff when they hired these guys, then they need to do some digging. If someone were to be fired within 48 hours of publication, it means the school probably knew all along.
Well then that settles everything.
Jeff Stoutland I met a couple of times. He was an offensive line coach. One time in particular he was at my house in the recruitment of Matt Patchan, a player from Seffner. Florida, I believe. Matt Patchan came to my house with his father and his mom and his uncle, who played at the University of Miami. I think it was his uncle. Coach Stoutland was just part of the recruiting visit. After that, we spoke maybe three or four times, or whenever I would see him at team functions.
I think everyone realizes that. It just doesn't matter. Pretty obvious that you're reaching here.
Apparently I'm not the only one.
The original question was, "Why is ESPN picking on Alabama?"
I'm simply providing my opinion on why that might be. Bamawriter is having a hard time grasping it. I'm glad you were so quick to pick it up though.
Well they are not SEC and therefore not much of a story considering we have Auburn, Tennessee, LSU being investigated or just completed. ESPN is doing what they do which is sensationalize the smallest bit of news to get interest up. The only thing they haven't done is to start photo shopping Aliens meeting with famous SEC football coaches at this point.
