Two car tangos

I was bored with the racing all week however in the end it was exciting and not much has changed. You can still channel surf and catch em coming out of the last turn.
Take a nap and tune in for the last 20 laps or so.

There is already plenty of scuttlebutt in the garage of what will happen by Dega. It IS going to change that is one thing that I can promise you. NASCAR couldn't do anything about it this weekend but by April they will have a solution.

The most popular theory is that the rear ends will be changed for the plate tracks where they don't line up and when you push someone you will lift their wheels off of the ground. So, you can bump but if you stay behind someone you will just go under their cars.

To compensate the wicker bills and the basics of the aero rules from the 2001-2002 seasons will return creating a bunch of dirty air for the cars and allowing them to suck up much better.

After the race several drivers and now some TV personalities have came out and said they didn't care for it. They all had to put on the smile and good face before the 500 but now that its over they can say well we don't like it and we want it fixed by Dega. And it will be.

Yes the end was exciting as it usually is anymore but wasn't watching guys get spun off the front end of other cars all day a bit tedious to anyone else? The most cautions ever in a 500. It wasn't my cup of tea but I do have solace in the fact that I'm 100% sure thats the LAST of the love bug two car tangos we are likely to see for a good long while.

That's a shame then, the racing was fine. They're going to pile up no matter what you do. Too many cars fighting for too little space.

The racing was better than expected for me. I'm not a real Dan of it, but it was okay yesterday. I could have went without the 600 crashes.

If it's not fixed you'll see a lot of drivers drop to the back to stay out of trouble

That's about what I did. I didn't get home untill 2. Watched a few min and fell asleep for an hr and then was in and out of the room all afternoon. Just couldn't get into it. The finish was exciting and I'm happy for Bayne and the Wood Brothers. It def made for a good story.

I'll eat crow where I said earlier in this post that it would be fixed by Dega in April. I only missed it by 10 months or so.

Today we get this tidbit of information.........

According to Chris Paulson, president and owner of C&R Racing Inc. -- which manufactures nearly all of the radiators used in NASCAR's premier series -- the sanctioning body will be significantly reducing the size of the radiators and changing the location of the grille openings before the cars return for Daytona testing in January. "[Sprint Cup Series director] John Darby is implementing a two-gallon maximum radiator size," Paulson said. "So in other words, the big, huge five-gallon radiators everybody's running will be down to two. And that accumulator can was a one-gallon max volume. It's going down to a half-gallon-sized can." The idea is to make the cooling systems less efficient, Paulson said, forcing the cars to run in open air to keep water temperatures down. "We'll probably see some result from that, but it's not going to be huge, mainly because they've got these things figured out now," Paulson said. "But it's still going to have an effect. The bigger effect is going to be moving the grille opening up to the bumper fascia area. Because now when they're tucked up behind another car, they're really going to kill all the air. So I think they're on the right track with that. They'll get the result that way."

I know that some of you still liked the two car drafting but after seeing it all of last year I'm still of the opinion I'm sick of that style of racing. I honestly don't want them in a 43 car wad either but if it's that or 2x2 then I'll vote for 43 car wad. I know I'm beating a dead horse but my main reasoning is that guys at least have some control over their own fates in traditional pack style racing. Yes, the big one's happen and that's always a wild card but guys at least pick and choose who they draft with, where they want to try to run in the pack, and most importantly IMO is that 1/2 of the field isn't guaranteed a no better than 2nd place finish on the last lap.

NASCAR is aggressively trying to completely eliminate the two car drafting with this new memo above and the fact that drivers will no longer be able to communicate with one another during a race and spotters will only be able to communicate with their own driver. I think if NASCAR sees a problem in preseason testing next month even more rules will be tweaked to completely eliminate the possibility of prolonged 2 car drafting.

I've been saying since this started the simplest solution is just to tell the drivers they can't do it, period. They made it illegal to run below the yellow line and after the first couple of guys did it and got black flagged they stopped doing it. If they want to bump a guy forward and get off of him immediately that would be ok but not hooking to another guys rear bumper. As big of a push as they are making to try to stop the 2 car drafting they will likely get it worked out by the Daytona 500 itself - even if it comes to the point of them telling the drivers we've had enough - no pushing period.

Too hard to regulate. How long is too long. Not enough officials to police every car. Too much gray area. Just my opinion DnD.

They are moving in the right direction. Make it so they run hot quicker. Still gonna see it at the end of the race. Drivers will risk blowing up for a chance to win the Daytona 500.

I definitely understand where you are coming from but there's also quite a bit of gray area with the yellow line. What's deemed ok? You can pass a guy if you give the spot back. Forcing someone down can result in a black flag for the blocker but then there's always gray area on what is blocking and what's not. It can never be perfect - I wish they could fix it to where pushing won't be beneficial and then we wouldn't have to worry about gray areas in that regard. If they can close the gap on how fast cars can run in a draft as opposed to two cars that will help some as well. Moving that radiator inlet closer to the front center will help the most IMO on the new changes. It sounds like overheating will be a major concern. It could even make regular drafting more fun - they may not be able to run nose to tail even drafting without having to move around to get clean air through the race.

Easiest way is to take the restrictor plates off and let them run full speed. We all know that ain't gonna happen.

I know. Drivers too. Could you imagine a car airborne at 230mph? It won't happen. Teams will figure out the best way to go fast. They outsmart nascar every time.
