A whopping two-thirds of Republicans in the South favor seceding from the United States while nearly half of Democrats in the Pacific region and almost 40 percent in the Northeast say the same, according to a new survey.

Support for secession is also considerable among independents in the Midwest and Great Lakes regions, where 43 percent say they would favor breaking away and forming their own country.

Half of independents in the South also favor secession while 43 percent of Republicans in the Rocky Mountain states share the same view.

If these regions did decide to theoretically secede, it would create five separate entities divided up by geographic closeness

The way the British tabloid presents the data is whackado. Also, very low statistical power relative to the regions.

It would be a different interpretation completely if the article title were:
Two in Three Republican respondents in the South Support SECEDING from the US While almost Half of Democratic respondents out West Say The Same

You live life working to the lowest bar? Definitely a democrat.

That's a pretty big assumption to base on one message board comment. But, yes, I'm pretty confident that the main reason for the bs secession talk is people have turned politics into a team sport and have been convinced by the Tuckers and Maddow of the world that the sky is falling every time they don't get their way.

The lefties and the righties whining about secession should both go find their own islands or rain forests and set up their utopian societies. The rest of us simpletons that don't want to go all fringe cosplay revolutionary can stay here.

If America ever fractures, it will be along urban/rural lines, not along state boundaries. Even in large „blue“ states like California, the vast majority of the land area outside on the major urban centers is inhabitanted by normal sane people. If those states ever seceded, most of their counties would in turn try to secede from the new blue overlords. What you would eventually end up with is basically independent city states on the coasts with the core of America remaining intact. But it would be a disaster for us all. The city states would sit on our major harbors and ports and have the ability to control commerce. The red lands would control food production and energy supply. The resulting economic „cold war“ would be terrible beyond imagination. The only winners would be the Chi-coms and the Russians because we would be finished as a power. So we have to learn to work together as a country. There is no viable plan B IMO

“10,000 Lichtensteins” would be glorious. Countries work together through free trade all the time. How much longer are we going to be a national power with 30 trillion in debt anyway?

I’ve found a pretty nice Utopia right where I built my house. And I’d like to financially decouple it from irresponsible debts incurred in places like DC, CA, and NY.
