Two in Three Republicans in the South Support SECEDING from the US While almost Half of Democrats out West Say The Same

Not sure why you think I was trashing rural folks.

I guess because most people do whether they realize it or not. I realize now when I came back here (to my parent's house - now mine - in a very small town) I used to feel somewhat superior by having lived elsewhere (I'm a military brat). With age, I realized that a lot of life's lessons - perhaps learned on a farm or from supporting a farm community - can be more important than what comes from a lot of educational institutions and from a more sophisticated society. You can study, appreciate, and critique culture, political theory, etc - you can probably even eat some art, but it won't sustain you. Rural people have a way of cutting through the BS and pulling out what's important, while urban people tend to pontificate.

Our Founding Fathers faced splits just as difficult as these, and with the threat of the world's most powerful military force breathing down their necks. They came through it and birthed our great nation.

If we fail to keep the Republic together, the fault will not lie with the person over yonder but with the person in the mirror. Everyone had to sacrifice to make our country happen, and I believe that is the answer now.

The US will never be a conservative utopia or a progressive utopia, but it can exist with elements of both. We just have to have the will to make it happen.

People aren't willing to do this today. There used to be causes greater than our own. Now when you budge the other side moves up and takes your position.

That sounds way to deep and insightful to be from Ford. Just sayin.
I believe he was paraphrasing one of the founders but I was unsure of its original source. I was thinking Jefferson but so much stuff gets falsely attributed to him I thought it best to stick with Ford

I still disagree. You try to enact the authoritarian, theocratic government folks want in Tennessee and watch every urban area immediately go in to open revolt.
They are already in virtual open revolt. What do you think BLM and the Nashville attempt at an “autonomous zone” were all about?
