Butch was just a salesman. For those that wanted to believe his bull, they praised the man and raised him up for every "brick" he brought us. Once the veneer started to wash off, he just couldn't manufacture any more spin to cover his own ass. I'm honestly surprised he hasn't tried to maneuver into television. That's the best landing spot for him, IMO.
Not excusing Butch’s decision making, but the Worley/Dobbs issue does get a lot of revisionist play. Worley a SEC tested junior against Dobbs a raw true freshman who’s family actually desired for him to redshirt isn’t as open/shut as we spin it. Limited as he was (especially within that offense), they managed to beat an extremely good SC team. With Dobbs pressed into action and mostly using his instincts? We beat Kentucky. Lot of angst on this board and the rest of the Vol fan populace amid declarations that “we don’t have a SEC QB on the roster”. Butch was way too determined that second season to honor his redshirt promise and THAT was when we glimpsed the bad decision making that would paint his legacy. Personally witnessed the Oklahoma game and Worley actually competed competently and we were in the game surprisingly deep into the 3rd, but with an epically bad OL exposing his bad fit, it was time to call in Dobbs. Trying to steal a year of eligibility didn’t cost us a bowl game, but forestalled getting better faster. Rest is history.Ya. He was a high energy sales machine. Kinda like someone that does network marketing. Lol. Definitely not much coaching talent. Case and point...we basically ran a spread option offense yet he tabbed Justin Worley as his qb when Dobbs was a freshman and sophomore. Both years Worley eventually got hurt and was replaced by Dobbs who was way the hell better. I guess you could excuse the first year but the second? What the hell? Other stunning personnel decisions would be using Hurd as the primary back when he clearly was not as good of a fit due to his body type and we had Kamari and Kelly that were perfect fits. Then there were all the conservative decisions. Kicking fgs from inside the 1 yard line and taking the foot off the gas content to just run the clock with a lead instead of continuing to attack. I think so much of that comes down to just intelligence...or lack there of. We just assume anyone that’s been a head coach is a smart guy. Butch was really just a hardworking yes man that ended up in the right place at the right time. Eventually he was exposed
I'm not exactly sure what a takeout tray is, but if he's flaunting tens of thousands of dollars on social media, I want nothing to do with him, personally. The NCAA would beat our door down trying to find evidence of foul play. That isn't a situation I want us to be in ( Not even if he's the best high school player in the past decade). If true, I say we move on immediately. JMOZack has a Instagram post with a take out tray with about 20 grand in it. Wonder if ole kiffen gave zack a little gift???
Just another Instagram Diva. I’m done keeping up with this thread. Best of luck to ya, kid!Translation?
