Story on Tyler Bray from Kingsburg Rcorder
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In July, Tyler took up San Diego State's offer until Tennessee coach Lane Kiffin came calling in August. Tyler then visited Knoxville Sept. 4 to 6 and came home ready to commit to the Volunteers.
"Tennessee did not offer me anything more than San Diego State, but I just felt right there because it felt like home. It has a warm and southern-comfort atmosphere, the fans are great and they were yelling at me everywhere I went, so I felt welcome. I have no clue how they knew who I was. My name tag was on backwards and I put it behind my back. I was walking around town with a hat on and people were still yelling at me. The Tennessee fans are incredible, they stand and yell the whole game, and everyone knows everything about football because it is a religion down there. It is just an incredible and breathtaking experience, and I can't wait to get over there."
The entire Bray family visited Tennessee on Labor Day weekend in September for Tyler's official recruiting visit. While Tyler flew out a day in advance, parents Jeff, Lori and younger brother Austin took a red-eye flight into Knoxville, and arrived only an hour before kickoff of the game between Tennessee and Western Kentucky. They changed clothes in the airport bathroom and were immediately whisked away to the stadium in a private car. The Brays only made it to their seats on time thanks to a private golf cart ride through a back gate entrance.
"We flew all night, went straight to the game, never got any sleep and never got a shower," said Lori Bray.
Tyler officially committed to play at Tennessee Sept. 8, just days before the start of his high school football season.
"I committed early because I didn't want to have to deal with all the stress of coaches calling me every night, wanting me to go to their school," Tyler said, who has 1,565 passing yards and 20 touchdowns so far during the Vikings perfect 7-0 start this season. "I just wanted to get it out of the way so I could focus on football this season."
Not only did Tyler commit to Tennessee, his whole family did too.
The Bray family moves with Tyler to Tennessee in December, just after school breaks for the holidays. Mom and dad will rent out their house in Kingsburg and rent a home in Knoxville. Lori Bray, a nurse, has already applied for her health care license in Tennessee. Jeff Bray, who owns his own marketing agency, is considering several options for his future employment. He also hopes to coach Austin in high school basketball.
