I'm amazed that one's pension is passed down to child. State and city pensions are a RACKET. Outrageous public employee pensions are a massive drag on the finances of cities and states across the country.

In states like Illinois and New Jersey, where political fighting influences decisions on how state pensions are run, this is unfortunately true.

In other states where the pensions are left alone to be run by professional managers, they are well financed and not a drag on the state's economy. Wisconsin would be a good example.

Outrageous public employee pensions are a massive drag on the finances of cities and states across the country. In some localities there are gamed by firemen and police who rack up a lot of overtime late in their careers to boost their pension. A lot of city and state retirees are living the high life. Talk about lucky: Without the pension Tyler would be selling cars after he destroyed his coaching career.

It's part of the Civil Service Pension that was standard when she became employed.

The state where I retired has the same system. Those of us who pay into the system can take a super reduced monthly payments and I mean a super reduced one and have any beneficiary get a lifetime annuity as well. This annuity is very small but still an option. The fact that Pat had plenty of money and did not need probably any of her pension is why Tyler is getting such a large amount. My child is not that fortunate so I had to take all I could!!:thud:

Actually Tennessee is considered one of the best if not the best run pension plans in the country.

For decades the state retirement system has been well managed, not increased benefits to outrageous amounts, and not put significant funding in risky investments. New employees no longer have a defined benefit plan but those of us who are retired are thankful for sound and fiscal conservative decisions.
