Yea but he has had a life time of training from one of the top ten coaches(men or women) who ever put on a whistle. Just my two cents. :) GBO

Yeah, but he is still 22-23 years old? That's pretty young to become a head coach, even at the high school level.

Tyler only being 22 has nothing to do with it. He is more mature than over half the people on this forum and definitely more prepared.

I don't care how mature you are, you don't have someone who is the same age as the players coaching them, men's or women's. Especially on the college level. I wouldn't let a 22 year old coach high schoolers. Too much can screw up.

mom does not make you a basketball coach. I'm sure T. Summitt will get chances other coaches don't, because of his name--but the longer he pays his dues, the better off he'll be. It's a learning process, like everything else. I forget: is he with a men's or women's program now?

I'm sure glad UT didn't think that way when they hired Pat.

His age has nothing to do with it. His maturity is way beyond his years, and he has been taught every day of his life since he was able to understand anything about basketball by the very best.

He actually has a much better foundation than his fantastic mother had when she began her unbelievable career. Tyler will do great things as a coach. When Holly decides to hang it up, I would love to have Tyler at UT carrying on the tradition.

It's difficult to assess a person's ability by reading school generated communications. Just check out what any school generates about their team. All glowing praise, few criticisms. Same with the local press. Any reporter that doesn't provide homer type coverage consistently will soon be looking for a new job.

I presume you know Tyler personally. I don't, so I'll not comment on his abilities or level of maturity. All I know is what I read and what his record of accomplishments has been. Marquette's record this year is 16-15 overall and 7-9 in their Big East conference. They got killed by Notre Dame (lost by 38) and Uconn (lost both games by 34 and 57). Granted Tyler was only assistant coach so it's unknown if he had much to do with the team's performance.

Comparing Tyler's "foundation" with Pat's in my opinion is not possible. When Pat started, there was little competition for women's basketball coaching positions. The pay was lousy, no one wanted the jobs, no one went to the games. It wouldn't surprise me if she got the job when the interviewer thought, "Well, she agreed to wash the uniforms." She was just persistent and willing to do anything through those early years.

Tyler is not in the same position. There are many qualified coaches competing for head or assistant coach positions. There is no doubt in my mind that Tyler's coaching job and his future opportunities have mostly arisen from Pat's influence. This is nothing unusual as it occurs in any business. People go to Harvard not for the education, but for the contacts. Don't for a minute think that having grand dad and dad as Harvard alums don't help a current applicant jump to the front of the admissions line.

It's a completely different time and era than then. Comparing the two isn't even possible. And back then the women's game was an even bigger joke than people see it as now. They took a risk on a person and got extremely lucky.

Put a 22 year old man in charge of 18-20 year old girls and see what happens. Hell, put one in charge of 14-18 year old boys and see what happens. I've seen it at the high school and small collegiate level multiple times. It will end badly, more than likely with someone ending up in prison. Nothing against Tyler, because he should take the job if offered, but the AD should be smart enough to not let someone not old enough to rent a car in charge of young women or men.

He has sure grown up since I used to play against him in high school then, I know that much. But I know from personal experience that when something happens to a parent you grow up pretty damn fast.

it is hard to tell if he will be a good coach or not,or even a mediocre one,he is riding moms skirts right now and I"m sure the hire was made to pull some fans in,as others have said,a man at his age,is in the hen house for sure :) here is to hoping he keeps his nose to the grind stone and works on his coaching,he has a long way to go, to be considered a decent head coach
