Major Connecticut donor wants $3 million gift back - ESPN

- A major benefactor to the University of Connecticut wants the school to return $3 million in donations and remove his family name from its football complex because he says he was shut out of discussions about the selection of a new football coach.

Burton, who played college football at Murray State, said although he was not seeking veto power in the hiring, he "earned my voice on this subject" as the program's top donor.

$3 mil? Tell him to get lost. If there was another "0" at the end of that $3 Mil, sure call him up and ask what he thinks

$3M to UCONN football program...

Probably comes close to equalling $30M just about anywhere else...

It's a tax deductable donation. It doesnt come with a veto vote. The guy comes off as a serious ducer

This obviously is not the first time the AD and the donor have butted heads. Sounds like one or both of them is a serious jerk.

Auriemma forcefully denied Burton's claim there is escalating friction between him, men's basketball coach Jim Calhoun and Hathaway.
"His statement that Jeff has a poor working relationship with the basketball coaches really angers me," Auriemma said. "He [Burton] has no clue what my working or personal relationship is with Jeff nor is it any of his business."
. . . and when Geno Auriemma intimates that you're a jerk . . .

Hard spot for the AD to be in when his major donor wanted to hire the guy that basically drove the Florida offense into the ground.

West Virginia had a similar situation when Ken Kendrick blew a gasket over the hiring of Bill Stewart. A new AD and a coach in waiting later, the program is still trying to get back on track. It's rarely a good idea to piss off your main money faucet, especially to hire a relic or an idiot.

That's the part that makes no sense. Yes, the donor come off like a 3 year old that didn't get the right flavor ice cream, but coddling donors is like dealing with women . . . you have to pick your battles. As much as I think Addazio would have been a stretch, I don't get going to the mat over a guy like Pasqualoni.

It's not like Burton didn't have insight into Pasqualoni. His son played for him. If the man who provides the rain for my program says he doesn't think I should hire the guy one of his progeny played for, I'm likely to listen.

In fairness, one has to admit that Pasqualoni more or less plateaued what Dick McPherson did at Syracuse then crashed it. I can see cause for alarm from a booster standpoint.

I fear my previous post, derived from comedic irony, has gone unnoticed. I'll bid you all good day.

You're not worthy of such A class material.

Don't make him call on his roots to smash. Got a handshake and autograph when I was 13. He likely doesn't remember me.

I was a close friend of Jake Voskuhl back when he played for him. We met through him in Katy Texas.
