Brenda F is savvy and a great coach. I wish we could get her. Boy can she recruit. Even with the transfers the team looks great.
A former student of mine played at Maryland. She said Brenda is touch, positive and puts up with nothing. She also told me they never hesitate and she coaches to all their strengths. They always believe they can win and there is a.ways a GAME PLAN!,,, Brenda is always willing to change things up and she coaches offensive play as well as defensive play. Imagine that! An offensive minded coach!!
Interesting to see what MD does this year. I can only hope that our Lady Vols can figure it out.
How long do we have to go before we see a positive change? Will Holly ever realize she just does not know how to coach an elite team?
The saga continues!
I watched it (most of it at least).
Maryland played well and shot well. UCONN still won by 10, but had to earn it. They knew they were in a fight when it was over.
UCONN is bothered by physicality in the paint. They seem like they are a finesse team and Maryland had a couple of bruisers. They adjusted at halftime though, or Maryland just got tired.
Like the Lady Vols, UCONN is not a very good 3 pt shooting team, but the one sub at the end nailed a clutch shot.
It was an entertaining game where both teams can really score, and play hard on every possession.
The Maryland coach is a tremendous motivator and competitor. Very different from Holly (but also different from Geno and most others).
If we continue being put in her bracket in the tournament we will continue to lose. I wish we would have made a run at her when Pat retired. Hart wanted a bargain.
It really was a fun game to watch. I thought the Turtles were going to pull it out. Close but not quite. Again UCon is vulnerable from the 3 pt line. The team that is going to beat them is going to put up a load of 3's.
I watched Geno's post game interview on ESPN. He had a couple of interesting (but obvious, now that he said them) observations. First they haven't been able to replace Stokes - the big inside defensive forward. Last night that showed a lot. Also he said they haven't found a replacement for Lewis, last year's 3 pt shooter. Their 3 pt shooting is probably only slightly better than ours. I'm convinced they can be beat & USC is the 1st team that is going to do it.
It was also interesting to hear him talk about their defense. He said something like, "we aren't the smartest bulbs out there". Wow, I think he has the best defensive team in the country.
"Their 3 pt shooting is probably only slightly better than ours"
If you look at the NCAA ranking summary UConn's 3 point game, while not stellar, is significantly better than UT's.
UT avg 3pt/gm 3.3 - ranking 316th
UT 3pt % 22.8% - ranking 331st
UConn avg 3pt/gm 6.6 - ranking 94th
UConn 3pt % 34.7 - ranking 68th
UConn's 3pt FG defense sucks. They are ranked 322nd.
I think UConn loses this season. I think SC might be the team to beat them. There will be a sold out crowd and I think they match up better with UConn than last season.
BS. The Lady Vols faithful threatened to boycott if he didn't hire Warlick...b/c she was Pat's choice no matter her condition. They hamstrung his chance of getting a big time coach. You wanted her, you got her.
Funny, DePaul fans said "We could have beaten UConn"....Notre Dame fans said the same things, as did some Maryland fans....and yet, they didn't. The SC game will be interesting, for sure.
