UConn Women To Make History Tomorrow

Yep.

If the #1 team in your sport is beating top 5 and top 10 teams by 20-40 points, that isn't a sign the #1 team is the greatest force in the universe. It's a sign the only people who are good at the sport are all on the same team, which is a big problem. They beat the #20 ranked team in the country by 65 points the other day, for crying out loud.

They have lost one game in the last 3+ seasons. 4 national titles in a row. The last time they missed a Final Four was 10 years ago.

Those facts are so mind-blowing that it really calls into question if any sort of competitive balance exists in the sport. They are dominating a sport that nobody else even appears to be playing anymore. It seems as if there are only 4-5 really good female basketball players in the country every year, and they all to go UConn.

Said no one ever when Tennessee was on top. My the hypocrisy around here runs deep.

Actually it been said for years women's college basketball was a handful of good teams and then everyone else, and it's still generally true, only now it's one really good team and everyone else.

It's an accomplishment, but ESPN acting like it's the greatest thing ever......ehh....no.

I never went to lady vols game in college. Very few students did. Frankly it was boring. "Big time matchup" meant they would beat them by 20 instead of 40. It was great they won but the product wasn't interesting to me.

I think this will be Saban's undoing, Bama fans have gotten so used to beating everyone that a couple 10-2 seasons will get him run off.

I've never given one crap about Lady Vols basketball or women's basketball in general.

Besides, Pat Summitt never won 100 games in a row or 4 national titles in a row. She only had a single undefeated season. I'm no expert on women's college BB but the sport did appear to be at least a little bit deeper when she was in her heyday, just from the simple fact that at least she had one big rival to contend with (UConn). If she had put something together like UConn has, I would've made the same observation about Tennessee then.

We could easily challenge UConn again--easily. We simply need a coach worthy of the program. Warlick has been an disaster. She's a bad coach, and it is astounding that she is still running the program. While UConn wins that national title every year, we have been reduced to scrambling to get into the top 4 in the SEC. And here's the thing: Our team this year has 3 or 4 players who were top 15 national recruits. We could be challenging UConn right now. Hart was out-of-his-mind stupid to give Warlick an extension. Our talent is top 3 in the country and yet we are barely in the top 25--if we are at all--and have lost, what, 9 games.

Geno is just better than everybody else and the excuses are getting old.

I looked it up just for fun. They signed one player in 2013 who is currently a Senior. One. This particular player is the 5th leading scorer on the team. They have two other seniors. One is a transfer from Georgetown who hasn't started a game and has stats that are probably inflated because she more than likely compiles them when Connecticut is beating someone by 40. The other is a walk on.

So every other school in America had the opportunity to raid the 2013 talent pool. They signed 4 players in 2014. Two of them transferred. They signed 3 players in 2015. One of them transferred

They have a sophomore who doesn't play and a junior transfer from Duke that is sitting out this season and doesn't play.

Long story short, it's a load of bull that UConn just out talents people. Geno takes his talent and develops them into the best in the game individually and the best in the game collectively.

In looking this up, I was actually shocked how normal their recruiting classes were. They are elite, don't get me wrong. But, they aren't head and shoulders above a lot of their competition. There are several programs that recruit in the same ballpark as UConn. This idea that they sign all of the top talent and what's left for everyone else is a pile of dung just isn't true.

It has to be a lack of depth in some respect, either due to a lack of talented players or talented coaches (or both).

During this 100 game winning streak, 98 of those wins have been by 10 points or more. They routinely beat top 5 and top 10 teams by 20 or 30 points or more. They beat a top 20 team by 65 points the other day.

There is no way they are just "that good." When you are that much better than your competition, isn't it fair to say that the competition just isn't what it should be?

Coaching has a lot to do with it IMO. More so in the women's game.
