UF Hires…checks notes…Bob Golden as its new MBB Coach

Todd Golden was just mentioned as a young coach that could become the next Coach K. They were not predicting it, but mentioned his name along with one other that could be that next generation coach.
Did this analysis happen to be mentioned by his toddler? Mine thinks I’m a great basketball player because I dunk on him on an 8FT goal.

They have 5 Final Fours and 2 national titles, all during my lifetime. We used to be a much better football job than UF too. Not so much anymore.
Yes. Demographics are destiny to a large degree.

You still have to have competent people there to run the programs but basically any university located in that state should be good at virtually every sport.

Whoever said that was going for some click bait. Not to get too into it, but it’s almost impossible these days for coaches to have the chance to make a long run. K and Dean Smith would’ve been fired in today’s college landscape.

Unlike CFB, success in CBB is rarely beholden to demographics. Our national title teams had starters from New York, Florida, the Dominican Republic and two from Tennessee.

It’s all about having the having the right guy running the program.

From a story I read they said this coach is heavy into analytics.....UF could have done a lot better imo
Kyle Smith is a huge stat-head and who he coached under for a while. Id probably go after him before his protege

No they haven’t
UF has 2 national titles, a national runner up, 5 Final Fours, 10 Sweet Sixteens, and 20 NCAAT appearances since 1990.

UT has no national titles, no runner ups, no Final Fours, 6 Sweet Sixteens, and 15 NCAAT appearances since 1990. They've been better by virtually every conceivable objective metric.

If you're talking about we've been better since Barnes got here, sure.

0 Final Fours
0 National Title Game Appearances
0 National Titles

Tennessee could have hired a young coach from Oral Roberts named Bill Self, but instead hired Jerry Green.

Jay Wright was a finalist when Tennessee hired Buzz Peterson. And I seem to remember young Rick Barnes being considered at some point during the search that landed Houston or O’Neill or Green. Don’t remember which.

Could have hired Rick Majerus when they hired Wade Houston. I think the Barnes thing was when they hired O’Neill.

Do you think Oklahoma St kicks themselves for never having a chance to hire Self? It isn't like they could have done anything about it; Eddie Sutton was there, but man, what a succession plan that would have been if the timing had been a couple years different.
