Siap, but Who would win? 2009 UK basketball vs 2011 UK basketball? I think 2009 would win, but this years defense is nasty.

2009 had more elite talent - but like you said this 2011 team is just a better team.

And I like 2011's non-freshman players > 2009's.

Take both teams how they started in the NCAAT

2011 I think will be better than the 2009 group

Wall and cousins are better talent than anyone on the 2011 team. Cousins would throw Davis around I feel from his sheer athleticism(watch the rookies/sophomores game last night for more proof), but as a group the 2011 team is more consistent and better defenders

I never got the "wow, this team is ridiculous" feeling with the 2009 team like I do with this one.

Also, is it just me, or is Ezeli Vandy's douchiest player at least since Ogilvy?

Both those points are completely correct.

Orton was overrated btw.

The 2009 team kept itself in games with sheer talent at positions. Patterson, Cousins, Orton down low was just too dominant, with Wall on the perimeter. They relied on individual play many times to bail them out of games. This years squad gets it done as a team, and that makes all the difference in the world.

2009>2011 in Talent

2011>2009 as a team, and in potential.

Although Davis may not be as physically imposing as Cousins and Orton... he may be one of the best shot blockers of all time at the college level. I think he's a better player than Cousins easily (as a college player) and his offensive skill set is under-utilized. They don't have anyone on the perimeter that compares to Wall though.

I take Davis all day and twice on Sunday compared to either of the two.

The 2011 is also 100% committed to defense.

Although, their downfall could be Teague.

I'd take 2011 over 2009 every time.

I'll give Cal some credit. Very few freshmen coming out of high school know how to play defense. This team plays great defense with a bunch of freshmen. Davis changes the game and rarely gets in foul trouble. If he stays out of foul trouble, I don't see anyone beating them.

Did you notice Teague sitting the bench the last 7 minutes of the MSU game, when UK made their comeback with lamb at the Point? If he continues to play like a dumb-ass late in games, don't be surprised to see more of that. He has his great days and his bad, but you just can't afford bad in the tourney.

There aren't many teams out there that are going to out talent Ky. Syracuse, Kansas and Mizzou are the other three teams that could challenge. I guess UNC could, but you don't lose by 33 at FSU and become a legitimate national title contender. That's a red flag.

If Teague is on, Ky will be unbeatable. If he's not, the other team's chances go up, but Ky still plays great defense where they have been able to mask Teague's weaknesses. The way to beat Ky is for Davis to get hurt, is sick or gets in foul trouble. Otherwise, you're hoping for a miracle.

The only way KY will lose is if a team dominates from 3 while defending the 3. Shoot at least 50% and yield under 20% on 3s and keep it going the whole game.

Ky doesn't rely on the 3 to win games though. They'll face a team that will play zone that will give them some trouble, but I don't see anyone beating them outside of Syracuse. Their defense creates a lot of breakaways where they get a lot of transition baskets.

I agree that KY doesn't need the 3. But, if they give up several 3s while only getting a couple themselves, the opponent will hang around for all 40 minutes.

Outside of Syracuse bringing its 'A+' game, it's going to take a team shooting the lights out from 3 while not letting Lamb, Miller, etc. counter on the other end.

Basically. That's the only way I see them losing.

Even then, a team has to be on fire to have a chance (see Indiana game). Numerous teams have shot lights out and KY always seems to have have an answer (ex. @ Vandy game).

I don't like predicting my team to win it all, but if I gambled in the tourney this year, my money would go for UK every time.
