Another thing....I think the team just got pounded three weeks in a row, against three legitimate top 10 teams, ALL OF WHOM ARE IN THE RUNNING FOR THE NC!

That does not excuse the performance, especially against Auburn, but the fact that it was a bit worse each week is telling IMO.

Here is what I think...we beat Vandy and Kentucky and go to a bowl. Then in retrospect we lost those three games worse than we should have due to the wear and tear of this ridiculous schedule, hangover from Dooley, lack of talent, WHATEVER...and it doesn't matter because it would have been a small miracle to win any of those games anyway.

In other words...the season is still right there for the team to grab...just beat Vandy, take care of business against Kentucky and this is the most successful season since 2009. Win the bowl and replace that with 2007....:good!:

I think how many points Vandy scores is more dependent of how effective our offense is. If we are inept on offense therfore leaving our defense out there and giving them more opportunities, they can score more points.

No way u seriously think that will be the score. James Franklin and staff have been in place for a while now and Vandy will come prepared. I'm with most other posters....we will need to bring our A game to pull this win out.

Agree. We cant expect to just roll over pansybilt this year. This isnt the UT team from the early 2000s or the 1990s or the 1980s or the 1970s or the 1960s or the 1950s or the 1940s or the 1930s.... This is team #117 in 2013... better play very well or they'll lose.

I would assume that is our A game. 48-6.

It's an interesting question, but I don't buy that if we allow vandy more than 22 points it means UK outcoached our defensive staff. I think vandy was deflated and flat after beating Florida in Gainesville for the first time in 58 years and that we will see a better effort from them.

At the same time, we are coming off a bye, which Butch is very good at, the team gets much needed rest, and we are at home.

So I certainly expect our D to do better than Kentucky's. But if they score a bit more and we still win, who cares.

I agree. The poll is not very in depth for a game that has many variables. I just want to see if people think we can hold vandy to a reasonable 22 points. Notice I have always said, can UT hold Vandy to 22 points or less. I'm not putting this all on the defense. Most of it, yes. But not all. Our offense needs to move the chains and our special teams needs to show up like they have all year less the AU game.

If Vandy goes off for over 400 yards of offense and their offense hangs 35 points or more on us, I think we have a coaching problem on the defensive side of the ball.

Just thought I would bump this thread once today and once tomorrow. I'm very interested to see how our defense handles itself in this game. Offense and special teams needs to do their part too though.

Hats off to the defense! They kept us in it the whole way. I am happily wrong about the way they performed. They just needed a little help from the offense and that would have been a win. I'm encouraged about this staff a little bit now, even though we lost. The offense without a healthy TE, young receivers, and an even younger qb, is struggling as should be expected.
