Undefeated and Tied for First..........

Down the Field: You made my point better. Its a mentality. Back in the day, we thought like my post; unfortunately, over the last decade or so, we have begun to think like your post. Of course the reality of our record/on the field product had a lot to do with that.
BUT, why should the fanbase wait for the team to lift them up, and change their mindset.
Why can't it happen at the same time.
So I say, instead of counting wins and losses this time of the year and seeing the glass half empty, let's think like we did in the decade of the 1990s and early 2000s. See em all as wins, until otherwise shown on the field............

I think those days are coming but it's a completely different time than in th 90's. Back then, there were about 3 good teams in the SEC (UT, UF, and Bama). UGA and LSU showed glimpses but weren't consistent. Today, the SEC is much tougher from top to bottom.

Back then, as a UT fan you circled Bama & UF and almost chalked up the other 9 games as W's.

Today, look at the rankings. Our opponents are all over it. It's much more difficult as there really are no more "automatic" wins on the schedule...well, maybe UK but even their recruiting has picked up.

In the next few years we'll start showing up to the gun fights with guns and not Swiss Army knives. Soon!

Very good points, all around.

Until we acquire the guns with which to compete in the gun fights, perhaps we can just take after society and claim to be "offended" every time something happens that doesn't go our way.

Bama scores a TD? "That's offensive! I demand an apology and forfeiture of the points!"

Florida picks off Worley? --> "Offensive! Give it back and stop being so greedy, you closed-minded facist pigs!"

etc., etc.

Or living through our opponents opponents. We laugh at Bama when Oklahoma beat them or UF when GSU beat them. I prefer to laugh when we beat them.

i for one would love to a ut team that overachieved. We have certainly seen our share of underachievement the last 15 yrs. We are kinda due. Butch has done a good job i think of changing the mindset and washing the dooley stank off the program. Will be fun to see. Go vols!

2014=1998!!!!!

We really need to keep our heads as a fanbase because when it gets ugly (and it will starting in week three), these young men will need our encouragement and loyalty.

This. 1985, 1992 & 2004 were some of best teams because they had lower expectations but still made some noise.

Think you maybe got 1992 confused with 1989.

Unless you're only talking about the '92 wins over UGA and UF before Majors came back lost 3 straight and "stepped down".

I win at the tailgate every game. It sure would be nice to come back, take a seat, and drink a cold one in victory over a rival this year! #ibelieve

If you see the tailgate rockin', don't come knockin'!

That's a pre-game strategy if there ever was one! :clapping:

Awesome game, Vols. Defense looked mean and hungry and Worley was on. Hurd is going to be a beast.

Lots of teams are rethinking their games with the Vols.

Congrats
