The problem from a PR perspective is not only the Gruden stuff but the list of names that has been leaked out. They're so underwhelming that there is a perceived huge drop off if Gruden isn't brought in. There are question marks about every guy on that list. Why no Patterson type names? It makes us feel like the university isn't really committed to turning this thing around.

I used to work in the Athletic Department and still know people that do. He has been there all week.

Why can't he interview/research via teleconference, Skype, etc?

Hart spent the day calling our 3 star recruits trying to keep them on board. That's essentially sitting on your hands when your job is to go find someone who will bring in 4 and 5 star recruits.

I hope this isn't true.

If it is, then I've given Hart more credit than he deserves, and I've been hard on him.

The only semi-plausible reason to wait to announce something already done would be to steal some thunder during the SEC Championship festivities. And if you make a legitimate hire that's going to happen anyway.

Well with Gruden supposedly not happening then Hart better be setting a smoke screen for another coach. the list of names that has leaked is extremely underwhelming. They all have done nothing but be mediocre. Every coach that is having solid success recently and has coached at a small school has at least had an undefeated regular season at that small school, with saban and chip being the exceptions. Urban Meyer went 12-0 at utah, sumlin went 12-0 at houston and brian kelley went 12-0 at cincy.
Right now there are only 2 coaches that have done that at their current school, Peterson and Patterson and sadly neither name has even been hinted at from anyone in or with connections to the AD.
If Hart hires anyone but those 2, Gruden, or Charlie Strong then he might as well just change the schools moto. UT, the home of SEC Football Mediocrity!

I love the constant references to "smoke screens," like this is some kind of James Bond or CIA-style espionage plot, and the mentions of "leaked candidates." Nothing has been "leaked." It's just names that bloggers and others pulled out of their asses in order to fill up space and meet word quotas for their articles.
