Underrated QB: AJ Westendorp

It looks like he is playing against weak competition, but he looks pretty good.

Ask Rivals. They're the ones saying it. I guess when you throw for 3600 and 40 TDs that keeps you in it

I don't know how weak the competition is, but I do know that Country Day (the team they beat in the state championship) regularly produces big-time D1 prospects. He was obviously playing in a spread formation very similar to Florida's, I believe Lane is looking more for someone who has played from under center most of his career as opposed to a shotgun formation.

Westendorp's name had barely surfaced on the recruiting radar before the season, but college coaches are quickly realizing the talent the West Michigan native possesses.

"Yesterday, North Dakota State offered me, so that was a good thing," Westendorp reported. "This weekend, Saginaw Valley State offered me. I am going to get an academic scholarship there, then they are going to cover the rest, so it is equivalent to a full-ride. I'm going up to visit Grand Valley State this Saturday."

seriously?

I was looking on ESPN, found a few underrated qb's...

Barret Bailey(6'4", 190):

Sean Berman(6'4", 205)
He's a lefty with good touch..

Zack Burks(6'4", 185)
Has a great arm, and still very skinny

DaVontae Payne(6'6", 220)
He is huge with a Big arm

Not saying any of these guys are gunna be targets or even that good.. they just seem like solid prospects and most seem raw that could fit CLK's system

The reason Westendorp came up was that the Plane was in Grand Rapids MI today. About twenty miles north of Westendorps school.

you're probably right but weren't people questioning Schofield in the same manner when UT got his commitment?

(and note I said probably :p)

I've debated with you in the past Rex. I think you do a wonderful job keeping us informed on recruiting, but I have to say you regularly downplay any guy you don't discover or any guy who doesn't have legit D-I offers. Thought you would've learned by now, geez.

Yeah, kind of like Bryce Petty who is now getting offers from Arkansas. Schofield who had only been offered by Charleston Southern before UT now has half a dozen legit offers. Shawn Southward, the two star who was the best back at AL/MS allstar game last week who is finally getting D-I offers. All guys you have downplayed in the past.

It may not mean much, but SVSU and SDSU are both top 5 Div. II powerhouses.

Just remember Romo went to Eastern Illinois. Not all good QB's go to top D1 programs, and sometimes QB's that do go to great programs don't do so hot. By the way Sean Berman goes to the same school as Renaldo Woolridge attended (Harvard Westlake).

The QB that just had his scholarship pulled by Mississippi State called Tennessee. We had recruited him before he commited to MSU. And we told him that we are not taking a QB in this class. Take it for what its worth. That could have just been a kind way of telling him we did not want him.

Most of the reason that we have struggled in the past is the fact we have taken recruits in that should have went to more of a mid major school. Sorry GV, you are wrong on this one. Also, most of the two and three star guys you are talking about have had higher level schools watching them as well. They just don't offer until they can see if they excel against higher competition.
