It's what we should expect from govt.

And people think healthcare can be run by govt?

I believe it was Jamestown where settlers were told if they didn't work, they didn't eat. We should really be proud at how much our country has progressed.

Problem was poor planning and every one died.

Good point in spirit though.

As well it should be. I believe it is Michigan or maybe just a local government in Michigan that has a working welfare program where the recipient has to work for their welfare. I think it's a wonderful idea.

Chronic depression is easier than getting hit by a bus, plus you get happy pills!

Bipolar(manic depressive) and I work. I hate it when people use depression as a reason not to work. But I've heard of worse. One of my cousins dated a boy whose parents were on disability because they got dizzy when they bent over. Not just one of them, both of them. Also, I knew a guy that found out he was only 20-30lbs shy of being able to claim obesity as a disability so he purposely gained the weight. Fat, lazy bastard.

BTW, happy pills aren't as great as they sound. Claiming some kind of chronic pain would be better because then you could get some really good drugs.

In Singapore there are no unemployment benefits. People have to work essentially full time jobs doing anything, and if their income doesn't meet a certain threshold then the government subsidizes in various ways (low cost housing, etc) but people are not laying around receiving government benefits (unemployment, SNAP, etc) without contributing.

The last I heard they had a negative unemployment rate.

Are you suggesting that had some of them sat around doing nothing but living off the efforts of others that they would have survived?

Yeah, I've heard of that too. I'm a big fan.

The one here in the US gives me some hope though. Providing I heard about that program right.
