Unfair to Bray, Worly, & Peterman

:lolabove: at people who think Peterman is a fit for Rich Rodiguez's style of spread offense.

This hire is nothing short of devastating for UT football.

Anybody else notice he ran that offense when he had the tools to do so. He inherited LeFevour(sp) and Collaros, so he ran spread option.

You mean he adapted to his talent? Like Kelly did when he got to ND, and Kyle Shanahan did when RG3 arrived? You mean coaches are smart enough to do this?

He runs a read option. We need a mobile quarterback for it to work. We currently do not have one who is IDEAL for this offense. Be prepared for our O to look like our D this year.

Or maybe the guy deserves a bit of credit and he'll run an intermediary version of his offense built more around what we actually have instead, like what Meyer did with his style of offense at Florida when he realized Chris Leak wouldn't be able/capable of running it the way he wanted it to be run

Blasphemy. Coaches are single minded and one-dimensional in style, just like my NCAA Football video game told me

Unfair? Baloney! You don't base your hiring of any coach on whether it is going to be fair to some tempermental players or not. The players will just have to put on their big boy pants and suck it up or leave. By the way, I understand that Gruden had been reading up on the Spread Option himself if he had decided to go back into college coaching. Tennessee has always had
trouble defending against the Spread Option. Consequently, a lot of teams run it and have beaten Tennessee with it. Tennessee never did figure it out when out when Urban Meyer ran it at Florida. Maybe, it is time for Tennessee to run it and recruit for it.

First off, I knwo who Peterman is and know he is dual threat. Maybe I should have clarified my post a little better.

Peterman does fit, so where does this leave Bray & Worly? My guess its the bench since CBG runs the spread. Bray has started since middle of his freshman year. I was simply trying to say I dont think its fair to him to ride pine cause CBJ is bringing the spread in. I know he was more than likely leaving anyways.

It leaves Bray in the NFL . Poor Bray

Why do you feel bad for Bray? If he doesn't choke with games on the line (most notably 3 times vs UGA) then he would have saved the last staff. UT would have fired Sal and most of the D staff... kept Chaney and company.

Worley and Peterman are both mobile enough even if Jones installs his version of the spread. Since O is not the problem at UT, he may choose to stick with a more pro-style O.

So seeing these statistics in a vacuum you would say this is pathetic? There is no doubt in my mind Worley and Peterman are both talented enough to adapt to a more spread offense. Worley could be more of the passer and Peterman could bring mobility. I'm actually very intrigued by those two both playing some next year.

Passing
193/346 completions/attempts
2772 yards
55.8% completion %
21 TD
11 INT
136.8 RAT

Rushing
464 carries
2397 yards
5.2 yards per carry
24 TD

A good coach will use the talent he has to it's fullest capability. That was Sunseri's problem. He didn't have the speed to run the defense he used but Justin Wilcox was able to do much more with the same players. Jones may let his OC maximize the talent to be as productive as possible until he can recruit the talent to run his style offense. If he can win, I could care less how he does it.

THIS!

I'm willing to bet the coach uses what he has and plays to those strengths.

I know Sunseri didn't do that this year. Maybe the coaches were thinking if they could hold opponents in the low 30's (while they figured the 3-4 out) they would win...If only they had.

I want to apologize for not clarifying what I was really trying to say when I started this thread. The discussion I was trying to generate was if he decides to stay how will Bray fit into CBJ offense and will CBJ even try and use him.

Again didn't want the thread to come across as cry baby whining and I should have titled it different and left Worley and Peterman out of it.

These guys were recruited to play in a pro-style offense. I know they are getting a free education, but in reality anyone that plays college ball has asperation of playing pro.

None of these guys fit into CBJ style of offense (Peterman is the only one that has a chance). My question is does CBJ let these guys transfer if they want too.

I truly feel bad for Bray. I knwo alot of people dont like him but he is a good passer that needs one more year to develope and I dont think he gets that chance under CBJ.

You probabaly would've been ok with Gruden right? But wasn't he studying the Oregon offense and that's what it was rumored he would run? hmmmmmm

If you want to see how he would use Bray, all you have to do is see how Tony Pike was used in the Cinci offense. If you want to see how a young Peterman will be used see the year Pike and Callaros shared reps.

Pike was under Kelly, but I agree with your point. I think if Bray stays Butch will fit his offense to him.

I won't miss him. Many won't. And Butch is not the type of guy that would have put up with the attitude anyways. Days on easy street are over.
