When I heard this driving in to work this morning my first thought was that this would be a significant diplomatic victory for the patient approach.

My second thought was that it was bull shiite.

Obama's close ties to Quackdaffy go back to at least 1984, if not longer.

We have had practically no coverage of that in our media.

I ran into a couple of guys from southern Sudan last week, I expressed my sorry at the plight of their countymen and said I was glad they had made it to America.

You can tell what is going to happen by reading the media, if opponants of any regime are characterized as 'revolutionaries' or 'oppressed minorities' we will back them but if they are characterized as 'rebels' they are pretty much screwed.

My understanding is that Obama is sending some old transport planes.

Exactly, I have a lot of respect for Sarkozy, not just for this. Also we have just launched missile strikes against targets, assuming anti-air sites.

met some French soldiers and some Legionnaires in Saudi Arabia during Desert Storm. Their regular soldiers are definitely competent, the Legionnaires are scary.

France makes some nice fighter aircraft too.

I briefly considered joining the Legionnaires (sp?). It actually sounds like a great way to start a new life.

By 'we' I assume you mean UN forces?

I've not heard of any US forces deployed other
than support transport aircraft.

I agree Sarkozy is a big improvement over past
liberal heads of the French government.
