I've been trolling OSU fans since last weekend with the amount of tickets available on Ticketmaster.

But after looking in to it more, all the home fields have the same problems. So many empty seats for 1st round home playoff games and cheap tickets.

Clemson @ Texas: $108

Tennessee @ Ohio State: $129

SMU @ Penn State: $60

Indiana @ Notre Dame: $390

I wonder if games so close to Christmas was an overlooked issue? Students being gone for the break? Fans passing the first game up to travel to the next game?

What do you all think?

I would think bad games and bad locations. ND, Penn St, and Texas fans think they will steam roll their 1st round game.

It will be 16° for the UT game on Saturday!! I am sure ND and Penn St games will be cold as well.

Might be a reason the super bowl is never played in the cold.

Cold can play a part but Texas isn't going to be cold.

To be honest a lot of these first round matchup are crappy no matter how the media wants to spin it. A lot of fans just aren’t going to go freeze their ass off as well. Add in the economy not being fantastic and being a week away from Christmas and that’s a rough sell for a lot of families.

If it’s a good matchup the stands will be packed cold and all. Green Bay and Buffalo have had no trouble packing out in cold weather for big games. Most fans simply dress for it, I think it is more the matchups and folks saving up to go to playoff games down the road. It we were playing in Knoxville against Ohio State and it was 20 at kickoff I guarantee the place would be packed. Believe it or not some like a good snow game. Always been a dream of mine to see a big snow game in Neyland. Now with first round hosting of playoff games there is at least a punchers chance it could happen one day. GBO

I mean it's probably a combination of everything your saying. I for one have been resistant to going just because it's gonna be so damn cold... But the team needs support so F*** me right...

Meh. ESPN is paying them $608M for the broadcast rights this year and that amount goes up to $1.3B next year.

Why should they care about butts in seats?
Isn’t there a thing where if the attendance isn’t high enough, the game is blackouted for the local market or something like that?

NFL stadiums are mostly in the 60,000-80,000 seat range. if you took 20-40 k seats out of all these stadiums, they would easily sellout. And these are sold out too. This is the secondary market having trouble selling tickets, which has been all time bad for buyers for 4 years now. I actually love to see this.

Exactly. On top of Christmas I just dropped $1,500 on car repairs, too. No way I afford to go to this game without dipping into my savings (which is a non starter for non emergencies).

I'd like to see some ultra rich freak like Larry Ellison buy several thousand seats and ghost them so Ohio State looks like losers on TV.

A 10 million dollar or so prank on Ohio State from Michigan sounds reasonable.

The reason I haven't bought a ticket is because of family obligations. We have Christmas stuff Saturday with my in-laws and my wife is sick... If not for the Christmas stuff, I would be there. More than likely the wife will be better by Saturday.

Perhaps, but the bigger issue to me is letting these programs with cupcake schedules interfere playoffs. Who really gives penn st, smu, or Indiana a chance to win this?? Or clemson for that matter. Nobody but penn st fans are going to that game. Nd Indiana tickets are up because of close proximity to both schools but nd will beat them like a red headed step child. Quality opponents is going to hurt revenue much more than timing imo. I know people like an Cinderella story but come on..smu, Indiana? Indiana avg recruiting class for last 4 years is 55th. They aren't winning a natty.

I agree with you that Indiana isn't going to win the CFP, but they can certainly beat Notre Dame. You forget how many transfers they acquired over the offseason.

Bowl games were largely about winter location. This is not, I guess.

Oh well. Careful what you wish for.

Too close to Christmas, most people are spending money on Christmas shopping, then you have the too cold in many locations, who wants to be sick for the holidays, toss in some crappy match ups.

I also think some are hoping to go to semifinals or Championship. Mose can’t afford tickets and travel to all. My family Christmas is this weekend or I would be going
