Do we play to our strength that we found during this late season run by playing a fast tempo game that Missouri likes to play or do we try to take them out of their game??

IMO I want us to play as if we are the better team and play to our strengths. At home we ARE the better team and I hope our gameplan doesn't give too much credit to them.

I say we play to our strength, what gets us into our rhythm. Hopefully we can "multitask" a little bit and play some decent transition defense. Find Pressey at all times, put JRich on him in half court situations, play good off the ball position D. Go down swinging!

Our uptempo isn't Missouri uptempo, if that makes sense. We should play to our strengths, but don't get carried away and try to go Missouri fast.

A key to our recent success is turnovers, we keep them under 12 and our record is good (I'm too lazy, but someone should look it up). You get outta control against Missouri and they'll start turning you over real quick.

On a side note, what a welcoming sign that oop to Richardson was...I can't remember our last alley oop from that distance.

Shot selection and an excellent half court offense is the key to beating Mizzou. They are monsters on the boards so second chance points are going to be hard to come by. If we run our offense like we did against Florida and take good shots, Mizzou will have no option but to play our game and a low scoring contest is no doubt in our favor.

All of Martin's teams play slow tempo...check out pace ratings at kenpom for this and every other team he has coached. All I care about is winning but all things equal the way pearl's teams played were more entertaining to watch. But a w is a w...beat mizzou and we are in.

A strong case can be made that this team took off when martin changed his thinking on tempo. I would be curious how the last 9 games match up with your post.

The more I watch this team the more I realize the need for a true passing and dribbling PG for the times we have to slow it down. We ask Golden to be a pure PG and our second best guard scorer when it's evident he's not a true PG. Allowing Trae to move to the two would help him out so much as long as the PG is a great passer and ball handler.

Speaking of point guards does anybody know whatever happened to the one we were supposed to get this past year? I think his last name was Stanton. he was from Springfield Tennessee I think and transferred from Lipscomb...

He transferred out....we didn't have a scholarship for him and apparently he was promised one so he left

Play smart basketball. Attack the basket, limit turnovers, and play hard on D.

It's simple.

That's just coach speak and doesn't really answer the question.

The big question in my mind is will martin have a gameplan that tries to make the game a half court game in the 60's??

Pace for Tennessee hasn't been an issue. They've played fast sometimes, they've won and lost. They've played slow sometimes, they've won and lost. Pace doesn't really matter for UT.

When they run their offense properly i.e. attacking the basket, play good D, and don't turn the ball over, they win

I think he goes with what he knows. And when he played for Purdue, nobody in the Big Ten played an uptempo style of offense. JMO That is also why he is a defensive minded coach...

In your opinion, martin hasn't loosened the reigns a little bit during this late season run when it pertains to pace?

Golden may not be a "pure" point guard but it seems every time he is talked about by announcers/analysts he's mentioned as one of the top 5 PGs in the SEC.

The true point guard argument hurts my brain. I just don't get it. Do you know how many true point guards that are currently starting for an SEC team right now? Not many. People let the media and anaylist glorify the "pure" point guard. Honestly we all get frustrated with Golden but probably the only other guard in the SEC I would take over him is Pressey.

yup...winning really all that matters...we play the 271st fastest tempo out of, what is it, around 350 teams? That hasnt changed appreciably during the winning streak. All things equal you could argue that kids want to play fast but then you see the gators who are usually ranked in bottom 1/4 of cbb(#300 this yr) and they do fine in recruiting...win games and no one cares

I think UT has been getting more fastbreak buckets, but I think that's because they have been forcing more TO's lately. I think they've forced four more TO's a game in their last eight games than previous.

I will say this, they are running the offense quicker in the half court. It's not five seconds then a shot like it was earlier in the year.

That's certainly a reasonable opinion. I have seen many post on here claiming that martin decided to go up tempo in order to get golden more comfortable. I see the changes being more of a philosophy change than you seem to think but as I said your opinion is plenty valid.

I'm just not seeing this in terms of strictly getting out and pushing the tempo more. A little bit? Yeah, sure. I just don't see this whole philosophical change that some are claiming. Maybe I'm wrong.

I can tell usually when we are in trouble. It's when our offense is not running the offense and UT goes through the motions of the motion offense.
