My niece is going to UT and she called my folks a while ago to report that she'd just passed by Ainge (about 8pm CST) and his girlfriend walking on the Strip. Ainge was in a boot but limping.

Some questions spring to mind right off, the biggest being:

1. Is it a plot by coaches- get him seen to mess with LSU when word gets back?

2. Swain spent the night in Physical Therapy last week just to get ready in case they needed him against Bama- so if it's not a psych job, what the hell is Ainge doing after practice walking around on the strip with his skirt instead of in PT? Is he pouting? Is his ankle so bad it doesn't matter in the short term? Does he know better but he's really, really whipped?

(another big question involves what my niece was doing cruising the strip with her friends on a school night given that I'm absolutely certains she's a virginal princess who studies every hour she isn't in class but I don't want to go there...)

All excellent questions. The last time Ainge was injured it took it a while to get out of his head. That is my primary concern and the moment.

they make boots that give electric stimulus to help promote healing... you don't have to sit in the trainer's room the whole time.. my aunt had a broken leg and she wore one to help it heal faster and she could go anywhere she wanted.

No matter how hard I try, I can't seem to stop repressing Spurrier.

My psychiatrist says it's only normal, but it's been a decade and a half now, and, technically, he is my pusher.... the psychiatrist, I mean... Okay, Spurrier makes me want drugs too, but he doesn't actually supply them.

I think.

Maybe I should hire somebody to check my psychatrist's phone records........

Do those come in a 'hat' model?

I know he's a major cog in the machine and all, but I'm pretty sure Erik Ainge is allowed to go grab some dinner.

Jeez.

Jeez.

It was shortly after his first practice all week, he was supposedly supposed to be resting the ankle for the game, there is vastly better food available to him and other team members on-campus, and, unlike other players in similar positions, instead of being in PT with the trainers right after his first practice, he was out on the Strip.

Jeez indeed- either he's more hurt than we thought so it doesn't matter, it was a psych job for LSU's benefit, or his attitude & drive isn't as good as all his other banged-up teammates. It's not like limping along the Strip is normal behavior in his circumstances- in fact, my whole point, it's strange and abnormal. It doesn't have to mean something bad about him, it just has to mean something since it's so peculiar right after his first practice all week, before a huge game, and it's behavior by a guy who knows people are looking at him as a possibility to play for them on Sundays...

Ainge once said he would play with one cleat if Cut told him to. i have a feeling he was clear to be where he was when he was.

if it was 8CST, then it was 9 here. pratice is long since over by that time, as is film study. i'm sure at some point during the day, he gets his leash taken off and is allowed to play with the normal dogs, and see his lady.

he's going to play and the staff is going to do whatever it takes to get him as ready as possible. you are reading WAY too far into this.

I think the fact that he is walking around at night is a good sign.

I have no doubt that he will play but how effective will he be on a tender ankle.

We will know in less than 48 hours.

I was comparing his behavior to his teammates' behavior present and past- and to my own back (you got a way-back machine?) when I was a student-athlete looking/lusting at the same priorities only with less possible money.

I didn't have the Sunday money in my sport, but I had the National and Olympic teams as real possibilities, plus my sport had lots more physical danger involved, and we were vastly more cocky and danger-snubbing. Yet, in Ainge's position, the worst of us would have at least been home letting the girlfriend nurse us & getting food delivered, not "out strolling". The mediocre guys & gals would've been taking advantage of the PT folks.

It just doesn't make sense if you're competitor without more information.

perhaps he had been in the PT room all week and wanted to get out for a while. maybe this was the first chance to spend a few minutes with his lady, due to practice and PT. maybe he was headed back to PT after dinner.

like somebody said, it's amazing the things the boot does for you these days. besides, the fact he was out at 9pm is nothing to worry about. practice does not go any longer than 5 or 6 i wouldn't imagine. a little study hall and some quick PT to get his boot on and it's time for dinner with the lady before back to PT.

he's going to play. the only worry i have is his effectiveness.

as for your niece, use my parents theory. out of sight, out of mind.

What's the big deal if Ainge is out with his girl on the strip? ya he plays football, but he's a kid. I was a college athlete, i didn't just go to school, go to practice, or the game, and go home. i had a life, and it sounds like he does to. i hope he got a little somethin somethin from his girl to help the pain.
