OK, a good discussion thread. So, let me play devil's advocate: Why wouldn't Blake be the four hitter?

Keep in mind CTV likes to alternate leff/right/left/right......in his lineup. If Burke is the 3 hitter, who do you see at 2 and 4?

I think Chapman May have a leg up on Stanwich as far as Freshmen go but we shall see. Long way to go

With that lineup, I think we are just as good, or better, with every position but 3rd and CF. I think if there’s a surprise or two, we could be about as good as last year.

Thanks for posting this. Good discussion. I like alot of it. Definitely food for thought.

Ahuna hit third for Kansas last year. He has a lot of power in that small frame. Of course, they don't have the lineup of fire power we have, so we have the more classic three hitters. So, I'd prefer him in the second spot where he would 2) stay out of the double play with his speed coming out of the LH hitters box, and b) the power to drive in the leadoff hitter with homers and doubles. Problem is for that idea we don't have a RH hitting leadoff type now with Seth gone - Scott and Booker are LH - and so if you put one of them at the top, then Ahuna, and then Burke, we would have three lefties in a row, and I doubt CTV would go with that. So maybe the lineup CTV settles on will indeed have Ahuna at the top. But I sure would like to get an on-base kinda guy ahead of him so he can get more RBI with his power.

Very good article looking at next years' outfield candidates. Take a look at Reece Chapman, 36th best outfielder coming out of high school according to Perfect Game. Alex Stanwich is rated 27th best outfielder coming out of high school by Perfect Game. Would expect at least one and maybe both to start next year.

I like your choice of leadoff hitter. There's a school of thought that you put your best hitter at #1 to give him the most AB's per game and over the course of the season. And Dickey is our best hitter, and not just for average. His slugging % is third best on the team. He strikes out only 12% of the time, so he makes contact. He also walks 20% of the time, so he has a lot of plate discipline. If he had been able to play the full season of 200 AB's, he'd have had 13-15 homers. When you look at his stats, he's a very similar hitter to Drew Gilbert. CTV built his offense around Drew, his best hitter, for two years in a row, despite having many fewer homers than the hitters before and after him. I wouldn't be surprised if he uses Dickey the same way this year. But I like him at the 1 hole, too. His OB % is highest on the team. Only thing he lacks is speed and base stealing, but he was 3 of 4 last year, so who knows?
