Updated Class of 2016 Predictions

#77

I keep hearing the magic number is 22 so:

Offense

QB: Jarrett Guarantano
RB: Carlin Fils-Aime
one more RB
WR: Mecole Hardman
WR: Jeff George
WR: Donnie Corley or Marquez Calloway
WR: Brandon Johnson
TE: Austin Pope
TE: Devante Brooks
OL: Ryan Johnson
OL: Nathan Niehaus
OL: Landon Dickerson

Defense

DE: Johnathan Kongbo
DT: Derrick Brown
DT: Alexis Johnson
LB: Ja'Quain Blakely
LB: Daniel Bituli
LB: Tim Hart
CB: Nigel Knott or Lavert Hill
CB: Marquil Osborne
CB: Desmond Henderson
S: Nigel Warrior

2 Nigels in one class? That has to be impossible! If so, Butch Jones is NROY!

#79
#79
Would that be Nigel squared?:)

When I found out Knott is yet to announce a commitment, I put him back into my "hope list." He is one of the best HS CB prospects this year, and we could use one more for the secondary, especially if Cam Sutton declares (which looks VERY possible right now).

Having two Nigels could confuse Kesling to a certain degree, but oh well. In the case of these two, Nigel squared could be a good thing.

That would be one super close! We would be set up to make championship runs for several years. We couldn't wish for a better finish.

and this is why there is no point in trying to predict where these kids will go. how many on this list have left the program already? in just a couple months the recruiting landscape for the vawls looks very different. im sure they will get a couple of the big time guys they want, but certainly not all of them. I think finishing with a class ranking between 8 - 15 somewhere is a good guess this year. that will be a very solid class to follow up the back to back #5 classes

Regardless of your opinion of the point of this exercise, we will continue to indulge ourselves.

However, and I sound like a broken record by now, how our class is ranked by the so-called experts means little. That is just to give lazy folks who claim to follow recruiting something to say here, and is just a distraction to those of us who read up and watch game film of the recruits. Useless.

Total Recruits: 22 (Offense:12, Defense: 10)

5*: 4 total
4*: 12 total
3*: 6 total

National Class Ranking: 4th or 5th

QB - done

RB - may take another if Kamara declares - Gillespie has been in touch w/ Emmons; 3* NC RB Rico Dowdle has spoken glowingly of USCe so even if we finally made a push for him, I doubt he would listen now; probably Emmons or bust if we go for a second RB

WR - Hardman may be our top prospect remaining on the board, as we desperately need a slot WR (I'm not sold on Henderson, personally); likely will take two of the following: 4* GA ATH Marquez Callaway, 4* MI WR Donnie Corley, 4* FL WR Binjimen Victor, 4* LA WR Mykel Jones, 4* FL WR Ahmmon Richards, current commit 3* FL WR Brandon Johnson; given that we apparently offered 3* TN WR Nate Johnson a blue shirt, I would imagine we are in a good spot with a few higher regarded prospects (my best guess is Corley and Callaway); would love to see CA WR Javon McKinley make it on campus, but seems doubtful - he likely stays in the Pac12 (Oregon); my favorite WR target is B. Victor, who I think will choose between us and UF - I hope the staff gives their best effort to bring him into the fold

TE - done

OL - need OG Landon Dickerson badly, who I think we'll get because of proximity to home relative to his other favorite, FSU; still in on OT Marcus Tatum; wishfully hoping still in on OT Kellen Deisch but probably not; getting developmental project Niehaus helps here, as he has a high ceiling and (allegedly) a nasty disposition

DE - top priority is to hold onto Kongbo; getting a visit from UF commit Antonneous Clayton and MS native Jeffrey Simmons would be big, both of which I think will visit; the smoke around Terrell Hall appears to have now vanished; JaQuan Bailey may be a fall back plan and he is scheduled to visit; Keir Thomas is also another possibility; we've made a push for LA DE Caleb Roddy but he seems solid to LSU; I think Clayton is the most likely surprise/splash add, although I won't get my hopes up unless he visits

DT - top priority is Derrick Brown, who seems more possible than most national pundits seem to give us credit for; also in on UGA commit Tyler Clark; GA DE Mykelle McDaniel is likely being recruited by us as a DT and may be a fall back plan

LB - the possibility of adding UGA commit Jaleel Laguins seems strong, given UGA's neglect of the kid since Richt's firing; it will be interesting to see what UT does with commit Tim Hart, who is at a Memphis school of importance (MUS) for future recruiting but did not seem to have an overly impressive sr yr; LB is also not as big a need as several other spots that remain for this class

CB - with 3 CB commits, we would seem to be done; MI CB Lavert Hill is the most likely candidate worthy to "make room" for; he has always been a long shot but would seem less so if his buddy Corley commits on Jan. 9th; Hill visited at Corley's behest and I would not be surprised if Corley commits during the Army AA game (I think it is a OSU/UT battle); with Buchanan's commitment today, however, I doubt we add another CB unless Hill wanted to join, which is unlikely, even if Corley does commit (which is also a low probability outcome, although I actually think it happens)

S - biggest remaining need in the class (slot receiver being second); I am confident we get Warrior; could push for Arkeem Byrd, who might be a LB candidate - position conversion ala Cortez McDowell; would love to see us push ultra hard for FL ATH Carlos Becker, who has had an impressive showing at the UA AA practices and is likely to get a significant bump in ratings (almost certainly will move into the top 250); we may be too late pushing for him, however, as several top programs (OSU, FSU, Ole Miss) have already done so and he didn't mention us during his recent interviews; he views himself as a CB but is likely a S at the next level; getting both Warrior and Becker would be a homerun, especially given that we have no safeties in the fold currently, and it is our biggest need in this class

My Top 10 Remaining Targets (based on both skill and need):
(1) Mecole Hardman, (2) Nigel Warrior, (3) Derrick Brown, (4) Landon Dickerson, (5) Antonneous Clayton and/or Jeffrey Simmons, (6) Donnie Corley and/or Binjimen Victor, (7) BJ Emmons, (8) Carlos Becker, (9) Jaleel Laguins, (10) Marquez Callaway
*notice that GA recruits make up my top 3 and 6 of my top 10
**Warrior is rated so high both because of position need and how his decision likely impacts 2017 mega recruit DeAngelo Gibbs

Nice recap. I got flamed for essentially asking the question that you answered: who are our "OR"s. Corey Henderson, Tim hart, etc.

Vol if NSD were today.

Vols recruiting him the hardest and he's originally from Midwest(OH iirc). Still has a large amount if family there.

Tatum, Dickerson, Williams or Pridgeon...don't think UF goes 0-4 with need so strong.
