Jones announces tomorrow at 6:30. There is a good UK source reporting that Jones gave UK his silent verbal already, and that he is KY bound. As always, I am skeptical and I doubt this to be true. I never thought we would get this kid from the beginning. But I would love to be wrong.

Totally baseless comment. First of all, the first half of a glorified pick up game isn't a basis to compare a forward to a guard. Second of all, wait until the draft next June and reevaluate your statement.

Not sure what circle you run in, but Pastner is not unknown in the college game, ESPECIALLY among big name recruits. D you think Cal pulled all those players into Memphis by himself? Pastner is a hell of a recruiter.

High school rankings have nothing to do with NBA potential and aren't based on them either. They have a decent correlation - but more polished players are consistently ranked higher than a not as polished with higher upside.

I agree. HS rankings are almost useless, especially when referring to the top 15 or so players. You can't watch these guys play against each other, OR play against elite competition enough to know who will be better at the college and NBA level. (Obviously, there are a few exceptions)

All I am saying is that you can't compare those two players by using the stats from an all star game where nobody plays any defense.

Tobias Harris will be a really good player.

Josh Selby will be a great player.

For the record, I wanted Selby here for several reasons, but I think he'll be disruptive to any team environment and in his mind he should be in the NBA today. That's a tough coaching situation given his approach to life. I think he would have worked for CBP because he tends to be laissez faire (much to my chagrin).

Spot on. Self will have no problem with him on the offensive end, though.

And BTW, Sullinger and DeShaun Thomas appear to be overrated from what I've seen. Joshua Smith falls into that category as well. Looks like Pierre Henderson-Niles.

Irving and Perry Jones are studs. Melo will be really good, too. As will Kanter, Waiters, and Barnes.

Sullinger is undersized for his skill set. His hype surprises me.

Harrison Barnes is the badass.

I think Irving is overrated. I'm with you on Perry Jones, Barnes and Kanter, they are beasts. Kanter absolutely exploded in the Nike Hoops Summit Game

Irving will be Duke's best player. Singler's hype is annoyingly perplexing.

And, yes, Harrison Barnes looks to be a stud. Too bad K couldn't land him to pair with Kyrie.

Barnes is very good, but I bet he doesn't get one bit better. 6'6" guys with finished games always look better in high school than they are. In fact, I'm confident that in three years Bryce Jones will be every bit as good as Barnes. So will a bunch of other guys.

Bryce Jones is going to make Kevin O'Neill a very happy man.

Joshua Smith is going to make Ben Howland a very disappointed man. Looks to me like a fatter J'Mison Morgan.

broke his foot.
did you not see he was on his way to MVP while Selby was warming his seat on the bench?

Yes I saw the game. I'm not being stupid in comparing players in a glorified pickup game.

By the way, from just a talent standpoint, I have to say Jones would be #1. But in terms of overall player, I think it's...

Barnes
Selby
Irving
Jones
Harris

Me too, but does anybody think he'd be #1 had he stayed committed to UT the whole time, rather than being the highest-profile, uncommitted recruit entering the Spring signing period.

In my honest opinion no. He got a lot of publicity by being uncommitted and had the big basketball schools all going after him. That only raised his profile.

Trust me I do understand, But recruiting and being a head coach are 2 different things.
Recruiting to Memphis to play for Calipari, Who is a proven coach and beating us on the recruiting trail I can somewhat understand, But A brand new coach with practically no NCAA head coaching experience beating us is another. Coach Pearl is a great coach. I guess I just do not understand why Kids are not flocking to play at a Great School with a Great Program Like UT?

Why would a Kid coming in to play ball, Chose Memphis over UT? Maybe I have blinders on because of my dedication to UT, but I just do not get it.

I am in no way trying to knock Memphis, I grew up there and want that BB program to succeed, But the Memphis fan base is like Atlanta's Fan base.

We have a great recruiting class coming in. Memphis signed 6 players, while we only signed 3. If they had three players, we would be rated as the better class. Chill out, we are doing fine in recruiting at this point.

Memphis actually has 7 players and their top 3 are all "ranked" in the top 17 I believe. Either way, both coaches seem to have things going in the right direction. Basketball in the state is doing good things.

Memphis' two best players in this class are from New Hampshire and Georgia.
Exactly.

Granted the next 3 best players are all Memphians. One 5 star and two 4 stars.
