Urban Meyer Out at Florida (merged)

Try and keep it somewhat classy guys... Say what you will about him, but regardless of his career decision, I do hope to see him in good health.

So he says it's because of his health. That sucks if that's true.
I hate to be cynical, but I really wouldn't be surprised if he takes a job for the Jags when the draft Tebow in the spring.

yeah, I made a joke earlier about him following Tebow to the NFL, but then I found out about it being health stuff and now I feel like a terrible person

Let's have some compassion for him and his family if he has a serious health issue. I just hate that we (UT) was never able to beat him.

All jokes aside, if it is indeed his health, I hope he is ok. On the real question this brings up, are they gonna give Spurrier a call? Who will they go after?

well, at least he never lost to tennessee.

glad to see he's putting the family first. it was fun while it lasted.

Meyer to coach final game at Sugar BowlComment Email Print Share ESPN.com news services

Urban Meyer is stepping down as coach of the Florida football team, athletics director Jeremy Foley announced Saturday afternoon in a release.

"I have given my heart and soul to coaching college football and mentoring young men for the last 24-plus years and I have dedicated most of my waking moments the last five years to the Gator football program," Meyer said in statement. "I have ignored my health for years, but recent developments have forced me to re-evaluate my priorities of faith and family.

"After consulting with my family, Dr. Machen, Jeremy Foley and my doctors, I believe it is in my best interest to step aside and focus on my health and family.

"I'm proud to be a part of the Gainesville community and the Gator Nation and I plan to remain in Gainesville and involved with the University of Florida.

"I'm very appreciative for the opportunity I've had to be a part of a tremendous institution - from Dr. Machen to Jeremy Foley and the entire administrative staff at UF. I'm also very thankful for the chance to work with some of the best assistants in college football and coach some of the best college football players and watch them grow both on and off the field as people. I will cherish the relationships with them the most."

Meyer will coach his last game for Florida against Cincinnati on Jan. 1 at the Sugar Bowl.

+1, too young to have health problems that will keep him from coaching. Hopefully it is more preventative than a big health problem that he is having.

Best day ever! It was a little late but a heck of a christmas present. I just hope this is nothing serious health wise, as much as I hate CUM I never wish ill on him.

The loss of tebow is just too much to handle for Urbie. I bet he and Tim get an apartment together and he'll stay home and bake cookies while Timmy plays football.
