So...with Urban Meyer 'officially' on a leave of absence...what contact is he allowed with recruits?

He definitely cannot travel but can he make calls and/or receive them?

Someone needs to be on this like a hawk. Cheating freakin' Gators.

I think technically he can still do whatever he wants. As far as the NCAA is concerned, I think he is still the head coach.

Sounds more like someone needs to get a clue. :eek:lol:

Do you have any info to answer this question with or are you just here to bash people?

The OP's question was answered here on 12/27/09.

Meyer's leave of absence does not preclude him from doing anything that another head coach is allowed to do, within NCAA rules obviously.

Does that include calling another recruit while he's on another official visit? Sorry I love Lane, but it was the perfect placement.

No, but confusion about it being an NCAA violation falls well within the context of this thread.

Can you please link to the reality Mr. Wright?

That certainly seems like Florida would be allowed an extra coach to recruit since a LoA is considered a non-employee status in the state of Florida.

That might be the case if Florida didn't already have a couple assistant coaching vacancies, or if the interim coach wasn't already on the coaching staff.

But if Lane can accuse Meyer of cheating without knowing the rules, I guess you can too.

Can you link me to that interpretation of the rules per the NCAA?

That's what I'm asking for.

Thanks for being less help than my girlfriend.

Typical Gator fan.

And thank you for implying the Gators are violating NCAA rules without doing any leg work to back it up...then asking others to do the research for you.

How freaking lazy are you?

I never said they were violating NCAA rules. Read my post.

I said they were cheaters...and they are. See history.

If Meyer can recruit and do everything else he would typically do in the offseason, what exactly is the purpose of this "leave?"

To keep him from coaching the ever-stressful spring game?

I was wondering the same thing when I first read the UF fans response in this and the other thread.

Based on what I gathered from Meyer's press conference, I'd say the purpose of his LoA is to focus on family and health. Many of his offseason responsibilities will be delegated to other coaches.

I read it, and you implied that Meyer could be violating NCAA rules by contacting recruits during his leave of absence.

You then asked for someone else to do your homework for you.....isn't that the very definition of cheating?

And he could be. I read, over and over, the sections in the NCAA. As long as they keep the number of coaches at the appropriate level, its fine. But if they allow Meyer and an 'extra coach' to contact players...it would be a violation. Still deserves hawk-like watching...I dont trust Urbie at all.

Tebow + the SEC East having their worst 4 years in recent memory outside of UF. Urbie got so lucky.
