I wasn't implying they would work for US freight companies. It doesn't matter who they work for, incentives are incentives. Whoever is doing the hiring doesn't want irresponsible drivers who endanger product, equipment, and make them liable in court.

Agreed, but making an exeption to the law or provisions because "they wouldnt do that because it wouldnt make sense", isnt a smart approach and leaves an area for "bad stuff". IMO FWIW

I'm torn between safety concerns (against deal) and the fact that the Teamsters are up in arms (for the deal).

If I were arguing from the premise that licensing should be mandatory, I would agree that this deal is potentially bad; however, I do not hold such a premise.
