USA Today/Coaches Poll

I actually agree with the poll, and I think Florida should be ahead of us, but I just don't understand the reasoning behind Florida moving up 2 spots after a bye week.

I agree . . . it made no sense for them to be behind us, but it's a little strange that they jumped like that after a bye week.

How about Notre Dame and Cal getting dropped for near misses? That tells me that despite popular opinion, the coaches aren't quite convinced they are for real.

I think the poll is dead on, with a virtual tie between the teams, with the Heads Up winner getting the nod.

8. Florida 6-1 1,051 points
9. Tennessee 6-1 1,046 points

Agreed, I think the pollsters wanted to fix UF being behind a team it beat. No problem with me.

I agree. I dont like having the Gators ahead of us, but it makes sense, unlike the last BCS poll(Cal 10th, UT 11th). Im definitely happy that the small margin of voter points, between UT and Florida in the coaches poll, reflects the small difference in the scoreboard at the end of a tough fought game.

this kinda raises an interesting question with them releasing the BCS polls so long before the final poll, which is whether the BCS results also effect the human poll results. That voters see the BCS and try to correct for it in their own votes?

that's a great point. I think that it could very well be expected. The entire integrity of the coaches' poll is a sham due to the secret ballots. Well, that and the fact that the coaches don't even have time to watch the replays on ESPN, rather on all of the games, yet are expected to have their ballots turned in bright and early on Sunday morn. It laughable

The coaches aren't really filling them out in most cases anyway.

I think that responsibility is usually delegated to the SID.

I'm glad to see Cal drop BUT didn't Washington almost beat USC, too? Washington needs some credit for hanging tough.:salute:

They have lost three straight, and are .500 right now. You have to give UDub some credit though, for this season. Ty Willingham is starting to right the ship in Seattle. The clock ran out on them when they were trucking on a drive to beat USC, and they took Cal to overtime. Both times on the road. Last couple years, that team would have just rolled over and let USC or Cal put up 50 points.

I think Florida jumped in part because your game was closer than expected and because pollsters probably making up for voting you ahead of us last weekend without thinking it through. Enough went, "Oh, right" when it was pointed out that Florida has beaten you.

Doesn't matter. Still early.

:eek:k:Yep, that was probably it. Last week when Tennessee was ranked ahead of Florida, the pollsters all made hasty decisions, but THIS WEEK the pollsters have obviously taken their time. :acute:
