Milo, you are really getting smacked this morning. Just remember most on here think it is great that you are such a UT (Tennessee) fan even though you have never seen a live game or been to the state, or even the South for that matter (I think saying that is correct). As lifetime fans and growing up in the shadow of the Neyland, most of us are not capable of waivering in our convictions that there is no other as great as UT (Tennessee) no matter what the discussion is.

You're coming around. It just takes time.

4. Michigan 9-3 1,242 12
5. Oklahoma 12-1 1,223 3
6. LSU 9-3 1,109 16
7. Virginia Tech 10-3 1,090 10
8. Miami (Fla.) 9-3 1,080 11
9. Ohio State 8-4 1,033 19
10. Iowa 10-2 1,014 8
11. Florida 7-5 910 25
12. Florida State 9-3 879 14
13. Georgia 10-2 838 6
14. Louisville 11-1 758 7
15. Auburn 13-0 723 2
16. Purdue 7-5 616 NR
17. Texas A&M 7-5 366 NR
18. Arizona State 9-3 304 20
19. Boise State 11-1 303 13
20. California 10-2 293 9
21. Texas Tech 8-4 247 17
22. Boston College 9-3 237 21
23. Virginia 8-4 210 23
24. Alabama 6-6 194 NR
25. Pittsburgh 8-4 193 NR

So this is the official first poll?

I cant see OU in the top 5, they lost way too much. Va Tech at 7 and Miami at 8 I think are too high.OSU and Iowa are too low. FSU and UGA I think are too high. I cant see how everyone thinks Purdue is going to be so good. Id put them in the 20's, not at 16. A & M is too low. Boise State should be a tad bit higher. I dont know much about the last 5 teams, and those could go anywhere, and will likely change after week 1.

And you guys thought UT wasnt getting any respect. :disappointed:

Hey OldVol, let me guess, Adidas paid the coaches to rank UT highly? :laugh1:

Just playin with ya :p

This is what it is . . . a preseason poll that will likely be proven to be completely nuts by the end of September.

Did anyone else notice that 8 of our 11 opponents at least received votes? Vandy, UK, and Ole Miss are our only opponents not receiveing votes in the poll. Pretty tough schedule.

But the Pac-10 does have the 1 ranking that matters.

Gville, the lack of respect is coming from certain media outlets, like ESPN, etc. There are alot of folks on the TV and radio airwaves saying we are overrated. They may be right, but who knows? I certainly do not like starting out that high. There's really only one way to go...and it's not up.

Having said that, being a prennial top tier program, we are gonna have to learn how to handle high rankings throughout the year at some point. Might as well start this year.

Well, if you guys are as good as you think you are, its a great spot to be in. Theres no way you get shut out. You just gotta go take care of buisness now.

But what if we're 3-0 after convincing wins in BR and Gainesville? Surely they'd have to move the vols up... :D I'm trying to be an optimist here.

I totally agree. We just don't play well as the favorites, with lofty preseason rankings and all (see 1999 and 2002 as recent examples).

Time will only tell. If you make it through week 3 undefeated, you'll run the table, IMO. Its those first two road games that would scare the pbageezes out of me. Less then a month to go, cant get here soon enough!

GV you're showing more and more that you're actually a rational person that just likes to get under Beltway's skin... at least as rational as I expect any Gator COULD be! :D ;)

They look tough, but I'll be optimistic and let the games be played.

BTW, that link was from the revenue thread if anyone was wondering...

If we make it through the month of September undefeated, I'm making reservations for ATL and Pasedena, too. LOL

To be totally honest, I'd rather not make through undefeated. Here's what I would like to see happen, as I am not crazy enough to predict an undefeated season...If I had to pick, I would honestly take a win @ UF, a loss @ LSU, and then get a remtach with LSU in Atlanta. Do not get me wrong, I won't be cheering for a loss in Baton Rouge, but that would be what I would like to happen, without being too outrageous.

Of course, we can't take anything for granted, especially with our road schedule, and the bulldoggies coming to Knoxville.

Yeah, accidently posted it in this thread, however I fixed what was wrong with the other one in the revenue thread, if anyone would like to take a look.

Yeah, better to lose sooner than later. As I said, those first 2 road games are the deciding point for you guys.

I'd say that a win over Florida is a WHOLE lot more important than what happens at LSU. Win or lose against LSU, we will still have a shot at Georgia left, so we'd still control our destiny.

I think you guys are looking for a role reversal from '01... :D We lose in a squeaker in their house and then get the revenge in ATL? Sounds fine by me.

Exactly. A loss would suck, but that kind of revenge would be sweet. I'd take it.

I would MUCH rather beat Florida than LSU, anyway, regardless of what might be on the line. LOL

I know the feeling. It's fun to sometimes find a reason to accept a loss when it makes the end result better. I actually hoped (briefly) that we wouldn't make it the NC game in 2003 so that we could go to Pasadena. I mean, I freaking live in New Orleans. What kind of a bowl trip is THAT?!

Let's don't make any reservations too early. I take full responsibility for jinxing the Vols in 2001.

My dad and I (I was at college at the time) made arrangements over the phone at halftime of the SEC Championship game--we were booking plane tickets to Pasadena.

Then, Stallworth fumbled, Mauck scrambled, and the rest is history.

Sorry guys . . . won't be premature this year, even if we do start 3 - 0.
