USA Troops (Thank You) - Swiperboy aka SB [Bin Laden is Gone]

+1. It takes 8 months for most pop garbage, so give the man some props.

...I think you've been misinformed. If Swiper is so good, why isn't he on a major record label? Don't say basketball or school, because he's running his own damn label. He has the time. My god, he has the songs too. He must have over 200 at least. If he had any hope of making a substantial amount of money from music, it would have probably already happened by now. I'm not saying he doesn't have a shot, but people aren't going to pay for Swiperboy mp3s or sell out arenas for his concerts with the music he has right now.

And as ****ty as the pop music is that you're talking about (I agree lol). It takes less than 8 hours, let alone 8 months, for the writers to compose pop hits.

I don't know that he can profit while under scholarship.

Why do you feel the need to do this? No one has said he's brilliant. We just appreciate his contribution to a situation.

That was essentially my first post on this thread. I said the message was great, but the music is nothing special. I felt compelled to say that since this seemed to be the general reception of the song:
His best work IMO.
Not a rap fan but as far as rap goes, he seems like he's as good as anyone.
I would have to respectfully and deeply disagree.

Yeah that's true. I certainly don't know for sure, but I'd put my money on him being substantially less successful in music if he weren't on the UT bball team. It's enabled him to network with a lot of people, and I would go as far as saying that it's his biggest contributor to his musical popularity.

Rivals is giving him props for his song... Kinda cool although it does mention his near miss with getting us in NCAA trouble for the exclusive top floor bar access...

Swiperboy?s latest song pays homage to the U.S. troops - The Dagger - NCAABBlog - Yahoo! Sports

tid bit... "Either a high-ranking military source tipped off Ronaldo Woolridge that the U.S. had Osama Bin Laden in its crosshairs Sunday night, or the Tennessee forward is a particularly efficient lyricist.

It's a matter of taste.

Heard on the radio that Kenny Hall made a stupid twitter comment about bin Laden. Does anyone know what he said?

I appreciate the point he's trying to get across, but his music is terrible. Let me put it this way... if it came on the radio, I would change the station.

Made it sound like it rivaled Mendenhall's idiocy.

I deeply agree with him when he says:
"What kind of person celebrates death? It's amazing how people can HATE a man they have never even heard speak. We've only heard one side..."

Also, this "Martin Luther King" quote has been circulating lately, but I've read that the first sentence was a fabrication. Someone just added it in light of the Bin Laden situation. Regardless, I completely agree with its sentiments:
"I mourn the loss of thousands of precious lives, but I will not rejoice in the death of one, not even an enemy. Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that."

I certainly did not want to offend you or anyone else, but I don't see how my post was in bad taste. I just wanted to interject my 2 cents since it was a differing opinion. Again, I'm not trying to detract from the song's message or Swiper's talent. I just think the song, itself, is mediocre.

I just don't think it's necessary to throw a negative opinion about every single subject (that's not directed at you specifically). Sometimes it's nice to just talk good, feel good, think good. There's enough crap and bad stuff already without having to point out the effort isn't appreciated talent wise when he's talking about a monster who hurt a LOT of people.

I apologize for even saying anything. It's just been a stressful week and I should've kept my comments to myself. You've been really polite in your responses to me and I appreciate it.

Yeah, I totally understand what you're saying, especially about the stressful week. Don't apologize for saying something; this is a discussion forum.

Yes, I said the song was mediocre in my taste. I then went on to imply that he wouldn't be a successful musician right now, but I say that purely in speculation. I think Renaldo's musicianship parallels his bball game. He's raw. The kid has all the talent and potential, but he just needs some quality guidance. I mean, you've got some serious talent when you can pump out 2-4 songs a week like he does. Perhaps it would help if he took some time to concentrate his efforts and creativity into one good song. I can tell that he put more effort into the Eric Berry and football time in Rocky Top songs.

And even though I don't think much of this song, it's nothing short of spectacular that he wrote and recorded it in such a short amount of time. That's a talent that many famous artists don't have. This is one of the reasons I think he has potential.
