I heard about the surfing too but, really with sanctions coming down the pike and a new coaching staff, rebuilding (if there is such a thing ever necessary at USC) time, uncertainty, compared to a well connected in california staff, some of the best recruiting coaches in the game, a team that plays in the conference that consistently produces year in and out 1) Most NFL talent 2) Heisman Winners 3) National Championships 4) More bowl eligible teams than any other conference 5) More bowl wins than other conferences most years 6) Now with the ESPN contract he'll have plenty of national tv exposure 7) Not too mention one of the best NFL prep programs anywhere 8) And nobody knows what kind of offense will be instituted next at USC because noone knows who will be the next coach, loss of schollies, no bowl potential for a while, and probation in near future at USC along with a comparatively weak conference>>>> Surfing.... IMO anyway...
