USC Investigation

self-reporting (if I'm understanding the OP correctly) doesn't tend to amount terribly to as much, usually

However, I'm not sure what happens with a school already on probation though

I'm curious as to how you self report things that happened 3-4 years ago. Didn't know about it sooner? Guess not.

A key figure in the ongoing corruption scandal at the Los Angeles County assessor's office said he gave cash and perks worth thousands of dollars to two USC athletes while they were still in school, actions that could violate college sports rules.

The allegations are contained among hundreds of Scott Schenter's county work emails that suggest the former appraiser provided football star Joe McKnight with a car and an airline ticket, and basketball player Davon Jefferson with about $3,700 in cash.

Guess we know how they get top recruiting classes all the time now. This is going to hurt their recruiting budget.

Maybe 7 years from now they will miss two years of bowl games. The AA is a joke. SC is laughing about this.

Well, we were already given the most severe charge possible: Lack of Institutional Control for that time time period (our sanctions and probation started 7/10). As long as there are no new allegations from the summer of 2010, we'll be OK.

For those who are actually curious about what happened and aren't trying to flame:

1. USC had horrible compliance during the Carroll years (2002-2009).

2. Joe McKnight (USC player '07-'09) was probably ineligible, but all these allegations became more than just Reggie Bush when they said USC had a "Lack of Institutional Control." This meant things were so bad, they couldn't just rest it on ONE infraction...there were numerous ones.

3. In June 2010, we were heavily sanctioned by the NCAA--justifiably so in a lot of people's opinions. 2-year bowl ban, loss of 30-scholarships and 4-year probation starting in 2010 and ending June 2014.

4. Summer 2010, everyone gets fired or retires. New AD Pat Haden completely submits to the NCAA--so much so he's become a polarizing figure in Troyland.

5. Since that time, there have been ZERO allegations of misconduct at USC (July 2010 and on).

6. LATimes runs an article saying USC had horrible compliance in 2009 and Joe McKnight received improper benefits.

LOL tell us something we don't know...congrats LATimes! In other breaking news, an oil rig in the Gulf called Deep Water Horizon has started leaking oil.

Kobe- these sound like new reports. Is that the case? The original punishmet was regarding Bush and Mayo. It does not look good if this was not revealed in the original investigation.

The story about Joe's Land Rover broke in late '09; he was subsequently held out of the bowl game that year and ran off to the NFL. The NCAA read our internal report, but had already decided we were Lack of Institutional Control-bound...meaning we were so screwed, they already had enough for THE HAMMER,

I hadn't heard about the $3700 to Davon, but that is a '08 basketball issue and would have no bearing on USC football for the '12 season.

The general consensus among SC fans: this guy (Washington alum) is a felon, headed for major jail time and had numerous shady dealings. Sadly, were some of our athletes apart of those back in '08-'09? Appears so. But, we're already serving the sanctions for transgressions of that era.

Eh, they still benefited from those guys. Don't know if they should necessarily add on seeing as though they are self reporting, but I would hope that at least some investigating for those years as well as the last couple of years could be in the cards.

Should strip them of those seven years of wins, championships, etc. IMO. Not to mention Kiffy boy and Red Bull Orgeron were there during that time frame.

So wouldn't that be a new charge fr what nccaa hit USC with originally , if so that would violate their probation?
