USC Investigation

They're not going to give any kind of sanctions that would hurt their West Coast cash cow.

For those who are actually curious about what happened and aren't trying to flame:

1. USC had horrible compliance during the Carroll years (2002-2009).

2. Joe McKnight (USC player '07-'09) was probably ineligible, but all these allegations became more than just Reggie Bush when they said USC had a "Lack of Institutional Control." This meant things were so bad, they couldn't just rest it on ONE infraction...there were numerous ones.

3. In June 2010, we were heavily sanctioned by the NCAA--justifiably so in a lot of people's opinions. 2-year bowl ban, loss of 30-scholarships and 4-year probation starting in 2010 and ending June 2014.

4. Summer 2010, everyone gets fired or retires. New AD Pat Haden completely submits to the NCAA--so much so he's become a polarizing figure in Troyland.

5. Since that time, there have been ZERO allegations of misconduct at USC (July 2010 and on).

6. LATimes runs an article saying USC had horrible compliance in 2009 and Joe McKnight received improper benefits.

LOL tell us something we don't know...congrats LATimes! In other breaking news, an oil rig in the Gulf called Deep Water Horizon has started leaking oil.

to your point 4, would have meant more if the AD hadn't brought in new coaches that were part of the original problem

So wouldn't that be a new charge fr what nccaa hit USC with originally , if so that would violate their probation?

No. USC's probation started in the summer of '10...no such thing as "retro-probation" for anything Joe did in '07-'09. We were already given LOIC. That is the most severe charge a program can receive--it means there was a total breakdown for those years. They aren't allowed to tack on any more sanctions unless we commit infractions from July 2010-July 2014 (our current probation period).

Since ppl want to bring up SMU, I think there's a valid point. In the 30for30 doc, what sunk their program was finding that envelope postmarked 3 months after their probation started which contained cash for that dude's mom. As long we don't see anything post July 2010, things should be OK.

If we do happen to see a new allegation during our probation window, I'll be the first to admit USC is done.

That's speculation. None of USC's coaches--except Todd McNair who is in lawsuit with the NCAA--was ever charged with misconduct. However, I still can't comprehend how Pete Carroll or Tim Floyd avoided a "show-cause." If things were as bad under their programs as the NCAA said, it's hard to see how they skated away without any accountability.

While there may be a public impression Lane and Ed are dirty, they haven't been charged with any infractions I'm aware of. I understand the point your trying to make, but USC had been turned down by 6-7 candidates and Lane was apparently the only qualified guy who could take it i.e. we couldn't have just promoted a nobody to follow Pete Carroll. Let's give Lane some credit, he's coaching the AP#1, with numerous 1st-rounders and the consensus #1 recruiting class...he's earning his paycheck, for now.

And all of the players are earning theirs too.

Looks like the violations occurred under the previous regime. Haden has certainly tightened up the ship in his time there. The ncaa may show leniency here

Although Orgeron commited some the day he arrived there - by texting Vol recruits to not attend class (EEs that is)

Sure it's speculation, I'm not saying Kiffen wrote the checks, but I certainly believe him and Red Bull "Wild Boys" Ed are capapble of turning a blind eye to cash payments

I wonder if USC self reported this situation originally and said there was nothing to it? That is what is implied. If so, then they may have lied to the NCAA and this county investigation is spilling the beans. Same thing happened with the original Reggie Bush situation until that lawsuit revealed the truth.

But after the UNC fiasco I doubt the NCAA will touch USC. They will find a midlevel team to create some headlines and this will simmer to the back burner.

Well, we were already given the most severe charge possible: Lack of Institutional Control for that time time period (our sanctions and probation started 7/10). As long as there are no new allegations from the summer of 2010, we'll be OK.

Cheating is Cheating....no matter what month of the year it was done in.

Nothing shows you've turned the page like bringing back half the staff that was around during the time the infractions were committed.

Do u guys really think a university should be able to control random people handing out cash?

Do u really think that no ut players are taking gifts from random boosters?

This is so dumb.
