GH6, maxing out is pretty much useless unless you want the bragging rights, and typically pretty dangerous.

I'd say most college teams max out. It established a basis for your workout. Highly doubt he was maxing out during the season though.

Here is the status:

Stafon is out of surgery and doctors are confident in his potential recovery. It's going to take some time before the healing process is complete but the prognosis is good.

Stafon had surgery for three things:

* Crushed vocal chord
* adam's apple
* torn muscles

The doctors took a break between surgeries during the day. He didn't require any transfusions during the surgeries and the doctors said he was "pretty strong" which helped limit the damage caused by the weight bar. Stafon was not able to talk at any point in the day after the accident.

if all goes well, the possibility is there for him to return to football next season.

USC running back Stafon Johnson was hospitalized in critical but stable condition on Tuesday after undergoing more than seven hours of surgery for injuries suffered weightlifting.

The lengthy specialized surgery was required because of a threatened airway and severe injuries to Johnson's larynx, according to Dr. Gordon Hinika, the trauma medical director at California Hospital Medical Center.

It is unlikely Johnson will play again this season, but doctors are expecting a full recovery, Hinika said

It seems obvious this kid was either maxing or working out with too much.If he had a spotter,then the spotter should have had his hands under the bar.

I'm thinking he just went in by himself w/o a spotter; which, one of the first things they teach you about weightlifting and bench pressing especially is to make sure you have someone spotting you in case something goes wrong

Glad to hear he is ok... Could a medical redshirt be used in a situation like this?

ESPN said he could probably get one if he wanted, but a scout told him they have enough video of him for him to still go pro if he wanted.
