This is a terrible decision imo
The Trojans averaged under 60k per game this year and are currently 11th out of 12th in 2020 recruiting. How does keeping a lame duck hot seat coach help with that?

He went 8-4 with a 3rd string QB after a bowl less year. Unless Meyer or someone like James Franklin wasn’t interested, who is there out there that would be severely better?

All in all USC should have fired him and sent an armored car full of money to Urban Meyer
I'm sure Franklin would have been interested to....there was definitely some smoke behind the FSU job and him...could be just his way of getting a raise at PSU but like Michigan and Harbaugh Nittany Lion fans aren't going to be happy just winning games they are supposed to and not championships forever

From what I read Meyer was very interested in the job

Yet for some reason, a president, AD, and overhauled BoT who didn't hire Helton decided to keep him.....

No chance they do that if there is even one hint of Meyer being remotely interested. Same for James Franklin

Gary Fatterson.

No chance he is leaving TCU this late in his career where he is royalty. Once again, we can name tons of coaches that are better but that list shrinks to almost zero when it comes to who would realistically go there

I think he would give it a serious look if only to appease his wife. If he were to leave TCU at this point it would be for that school in Austin. It's all laid out for him to make that jump. Austin has the culture his wife is looking for and former TCU AD, Chris Del Conte, is now at Texas to make it a smooth transition.

A move like this really makes me question how serious the current admin is about football. The Pac 12 at the moment is currently there to be had. Let's be real - it's easier for a school like Utah to be having the season they are having because the big name in the conference is down. Which is ironic, because USC actually beat Utah this year.

No school has more resources or tradition in that conference than USC, and they can simply walk out the entrance of campus to field most of their team. There is absolutely no reason in the world USC should only have 1 conference title over any given 10-year period.

What’s the deal with his wife ?

I'm glad to hear this. I think that the way they talked about Meyer taking the job in the middle of the season was just disrespectful and wrong. I realize that this means that Meyer wasn't really that interested, but regardless...nobody should have to deal with that garbage. I don't like how USC handled this, and I don't like how Ole Miss handled firing Coach Luke. But at least USC is trying to do the right thing (maybe because they weren't able to do the wrong thing).

She rules the roost. He married above his pay grade. She's into a artsy fartsy lifestyle. He would have been at KState the first time the Purple Wizard retired if the Little Apple could offer what D/FW, LA or Austin can.

Heck, I know a billionaire OU alum that lives in OKC but his wife lives in Dallas because of the artsy fartsy lifestyle...it works for them.

That is bad for USC, but good for Tennessee. Rah us!

I feel like there is no chance this is true, since they are keeping Helton. Urban is going to take the OU job when Lincoln Riley goes to Dallas.

Honest question, is USC done being a perennial power? They caught lightning in a bottle with the Caroll years, but other than that stretch, USC has been pretty meh since the late 80's. They didn't win 10 games once in the 90's. Their best record in the last 11 years is 10-2, and that was in 2011. It's LA, it's PAC 12, the students don't care that much, the uniforms are so ugly and outdated, the stadium is a little over half full, etc. Why do players want to go there?

I still think USC is a sleeping giant and all they have to do to become a power again is to hire the right head football coach

I think they will be up and down as they land star skill players. The PAC12 is notoriously weak and a 2 team conference at any given point and time. There is zero reason for USC to not be #1 in recruiting in conference regardless of the coach.
