Why is this hard to understand?

Topic: USC on UT forum = crap thread
Posted via VolNation Mobile

I'm trying to understand why Tennessee isn't as successful as Lane Kiffin when he hasn't been there very long and is still yet unproven. Is that so hard to understand homie? If we are talking recruits I would think you, as a Tennessee fan, like myself would want those top recruits.

Sure you are... apologizing to the kids parents? You’re trying to show off for everyone and it’s embarrassing. And yes you did say something about it... and then 10 more posts about it. Just pump the breaks and talk about football man. No one thinks this is cool.

Thank you. I didn't mean to post this in the wrong forum, but I was asking a reasonable question pertaining to our beloved Vols.

The reason has less to do with Kiffin and more about the resources he surrounds himself with. California has a ton of top-tier talent, its a sexy school and sexy place to live, by the beach. Basically, it’s very attractive to a lot of 17 and 18 year olds, some of which have grown up with nothing. Knoxville doesn’t have that same draw, even if we do play in the SEC and look to be heading in the right direction. USC will ALWAYS recruit well regardless of the who’s the coach... because it’s USC.

It takes wins or an incredible salesman. People talk about tradition, but it doesn't mean jack to a 17 year old with no memory of a time when we mattered. It's the same problem that Michigan, Nebraska and Notte Dame are working through.
True. Love to have both. Hard to sell a bad product, but excellent combination when you have a great salesman selling a great product. This staff seems to be able to sell us pretty well even during losing seasons, so look out when we're winning 10 games each year.

If you're going to insult, be funny.

Fortunately, humor is relative...

OK, maybe I came out of the gate a little hard on ole PeytonBerry.. Had a few tall boys tonight and his thread annoyed me. Then he got smart with me and I took it a little far. I have no desire to earn a VolBeef rep around here so here goes:

ManningBerry - I apologize if I hurt your feelings. It was all in good fun from my part. I didn't realize you'd take me so seriously and be sensitive to my posts. I will keep in mind next time that you do not share the same sense of fun that I do and any conversation I have with you in the future will be direct, to the point, and matter-of-fact, and free of sarcasm. If you choose to keep me off of your ignore list, I will treat you with the utmost respect and dignity. You are correct, we are on the same side. Go Vols. And screw Lane Kiffin

We have a Fulmer thread. Can we please , for the love of God , have a thread where you merge all this SC/Kiffin **** into one thread in the NCAA section? Some of us are sick and tired of seeing the same subject and arguments posted over and over again. All you do when you talk about him , is do exactly what he wants you to do. Keeping his name alive around here. Being over what happend is one thing. But having to see this posted here on a daily basis going into year three with a new coach just makes our fan base look stupid. I mean , why not? Am I the only one tired of seeing this crap?

And to answer the question in the OP, half is what USC has to sell (location, tradition, NFL prospects, exposure, etc) and half is (honestly believe this) Kiffin's less-than-savory recruiting tactics. There is no doubt some funny business going on and he will be busted one day. (He had the NCAA sniffing around here within a couple of months of being in Knoxville)

I'm not an expert as some on on Volnation, but I will ask a question based on results. How can USC recruit so many talented players within their state and abroad? Is it the atmosphere? Is it Lane? Is it Monte? What is it?

Whatever "IT" is fellas we sure need it!!!

What do you fellas think?

lies and hot sauce we dont need it!

Not to mention the media only keeps up with USC's game success or failure. They don't have all their major news outletts keeping up with any dirty dealings. Besides there is a lot to do in southern cali.

For an 18 year old kid, this looks good:
1. Southern California
2. Beaches
3. Celebrity lifestyle
4. Hot women
5. Parties all the time
6. Great facilities
7. While he's brash and arrogant, Kiffin is cool to young kids.
8. Good history of NFL players.
9. Elite team in a relatively weak conference

A whole paper could be written on this, honestly. It's why I laugh when teams like USC and Texas do anything less than 10 wins. Those two teams are beyond appealing to recruits.

It is not the campus of USC that is the attraction unless their student athletes feel at home being on a campus surrounded by security wrought iron fencing to help contain the criminal elements. It is southern Cali and is close to the beach but the campus sits in the middle of the hood.

Just to add, five running backs have won a Heisman Trophy at USC. Yes I know, Reggie Bush was stripped of his.

I get the location, location, location. But, San Diego is a helluva lot nicer than LA. San Diego State should have the best recruiting classes every year if it was just about that. They have been much more relevant than TN and hired a high profile coach, something UT did not do. So, imo, yes location is big, but recent success means a lot more. USC sucked in the late 80's and 90's. Pete Carroll came along and got them back on track.
