USC taps FGCU's Andy Enfield as next head coach

He took Florida Gulf Coast to the Sweet 16 imagine what he can do at a school like USC.

Seriously Lane Kiffin is in awe of Andy Enfields ability to parlay nothing into a primo job

As an FGCU staff member and friend with some of the assistant coaches, you could see this coming. Andy had to cash in when he could because nothing was promised in the A-Sun since he'd have to win the conference tournament every year just to get into the big dance. I know next years team will be just as talented, if not more, but that doesn't mean they'd make another run like this years team. Plus, if I offered you 10x what you're making now, I doubt many if any of you'd turn it down to do the exact same job in a different location with better resources. Congrats Andy and don't let Lane corrupt you.

To be fair, he's also got a few years as an NBA Assistant that I'm sure is intriguing to some people; probably for good reason. But if the guy was really that great a head coach, would he have lost a bunch of games in the A-Sun the past 2 years?

Under Pitino.

So USC now has Amanda Marcum and Layla Kiffin...don't know about the coaches, but they're at least doing one thing right.

It's all that matters to draw attention, but I'm telling you . . . this guy just isn't all that special.

What would have impressed you? A Final 4 or NC.
Sweet 16 2nd year of coaching, 2nd year of NCAA eligibility for school.
How is that not impressive?

It IS impressive, but you've got to understand that I've seen this guy coach live and underachieve a few times with teams that were obviously more talented. Can't deny that he got them going in the right direction at the right time though.

Sure he had some off games this year, but what coach doesn't? He took a team that won 9 games in 2010, recruited well, and took the 2011 team to the conference championship game with 3 freshmen starting. This year, in his 2nd year, he beat Miami, Georgetown, SDSU and went to the Sweet 16 with a bunch if sophomores and a walk on senior. I wouldnt call that undeeachieving. I think he can turn SC into a team that makes the tourney on a consistent basis. That's his ceiling IMO

Like I said . . . I don't think he's bad. I just don't think he quite warrants a job like that yet.

Warrants a job like that? USC BB, a job like that? USC isn't a BB powerhouse so he probably took a job no other high-profile coach would want.

How friggin complicated is this? I never said he was bad. I'm just in the unique position to offer anecdotal evidence based on something I've seen with my own two eyes in each of the past two years. He may work out great. It's just that when I've sat 50 feet from him and watched him coach, I haven't been overly impressed at any time before the last two weeks.

Who said its complicated? You gave your opinion after seeing him coach a couple times, and I have mine after seeing him coach in practice and in games many times. Neither of us know how he'll do, take a chill pill.

No big deal. I missed the part where you had actually seen him coach.
