Seriously, USC is very good, BUT, they dont play any teams with a run defense. Period. If USC had played Auburn last season, I do feel that auburn would have beat them, EVEN though auburn didn't really defend the run as well as some SEC teams this year. They beat the same okla defense that got gashed by K-State the year before, so please. Granted USC is the only balanced Pac-10 team, BUT, the SEC is defined by balance. No way if they play Bama, LSU, Notre Dame, Fla, Ga in their schedule like we do, do they escape all 5 of those defenses. I agree they are good, but could not hang in the SEC without at least 1-2 losses. And lets remember, getting drafted is very different from having success in the NFL. USC is a product of ESPN, where Cal and Arizona State get high rankings BECAUSE they play USC!! Oklahoma is showing their true colors this season, yet everyone was high on the last year basically because they had a good O-Line and beat an overrated texas team. What is everyone going to say when OU puts it to texas this weekend? How can you then make the argument that OU is that much worse than they were last year? I will personally eat crow if it doesnt happen, but I really think I wont need to as OU is going to keep their overrated streak against overrated Texas going. :focus:

Come on... Two straight national championships and what, 3 or 4 straight BCS wins for USC? I mean I hate to praise a team that gets enough praise as it is, but this USC squad is already classified as one of those extremely rare squads that just dominates the entire scene of college football. I'm talking all the way from General to Bear, Rockne, all the great Army teams all the way through mid-90's Nebraska and early '00's Miami. Even if they lose this year they already have that status.

And as for balance in the SEC... I can name maybe one team that has a truly balanced offense and maybe two or three that have balanced defenses. USC would probably tear every single SEC team to shreds. Texas and Virginia Tech are the only two teams I think can hang with USC.

Surely you dont mean the Virginia Tech team that almost lost to NC State? I am just a little skeptical of these greatest team banners people keep hanging. Two seasons ago people were saying that about oklahoma...

Cal is the only team I see coming close. USC has a wayy to powerful offense, and will put up 50 points on a good defense.

USC is the best I've seen since the Nebraska team that whupped Florida in the Fiesta Bowl in 95, I think it was. Their defense is their weakest area but when you can light up a scoreboard like they can, it's elementary. Love to watch them, hope they go all the way (Unless UT gets them in the NCG, of course).

Why do we want USC to lose? I want Va Tech, Texas, Florida State, Cal, and Georgia to lose, along with Alabama. Of course, we will see to it that those last two lose.

I don't see them losing to anyone. They may play some close games, but they are just too good.

I'd rather play Florida State or Ohio State or someone like that if we get to the NC game, but you can just about count on it being USC.

I imagine the only shot UT has at playing for the national champ is if they play a common opponent of USC (Notre Dame), and beat them. Ergo, you should be hoping USC drops that game.

Ok besides the fact that I am the ONLY one on this board that has been to an actuall USC game then I would just shut my mouth if I was you.  I went to the Oregon vs. USC game and USC is not that impressive.  Come on who have they beat this year huh?  All I said was there is no way they didn't have two losses if they played uab then go to florida and lsu,  play ole miss, then play georgia and go to alabama.  Trust  me I live on the west coast,  I have seen them play too much.  more than you I am sure.

Well if that is the case, then you and I must have very different opinions on what "not that impressive" means. They had a bad first half against Oregon and since you were there, maybe you can refresh my memory on how that game ended up. What two teams do you think they would lose to in that stretch if they played our schedule? FLA got destroyed by Bama, and really was not that impressive when they beat us...I mean when we beat us. LSU should have lost to ASU whom USC beat, Georgia has yet to play a decent team, and while Bama looked great against FLA they struggled against some very weak opponents. I am not even going to toy with the Idea that UAB or Ole Miss could even dream of giving USC a good game. Since you have seen them play so much when was the last time they lost? They have a pretty good streak going for a team that is "not that impressive". Everyone wants to talk about how they would lose if they had to play a good team but what have they done in the last 2 bowl games they played in? Did you know that the FIRST time they punted this year while the first team offense was still playing was in the Oregon game? What was that thier third game of the year? Tell me this since USC is not that good who do you think is better? VaTech and Texas are the only two at this point that are in the same ball park IMO.

Consider that they made Arkansas look like a pee wee team.  The same Arkansas that hung in there with Bama.

Well I say that they still have not played a two back to back strong teams . When they played Arkansas they were playing every team in the SEC. Look at Vandy should have could have but did not beat a good MTSU team MTSU will not win a lot of games this year , but they wanted to beat the SEC . Any offense is good if there is no defense , that is what the west coast fooball is all about . We have seen it this year at LSU Les Miles is having to re-think his football game plan .

What team in the country is better? It is not just a lack of defense...Leinart, Bush, and White are probably all top 5 picks. How many teams have ever been able to claim thier entire backfield could go in the top 5?

This is a great thread. Many good arguments both ways.

Whereas I said in an earlier post I don't think USC will lose, I am reminded of past experience where somebody LOOKED unbeatable but got beat. I revise my observations to "They LOOK unbeatable to me."
Facts are, EVERYBODY they play is going to be laying for them. Nobody gives the defending national champions and top ranked team a mediocre effort. Everybody they play has them circled on their schedule and will play them 9 miles over their heads.

Their rivalry games will be their toughest Cal, UCLA, ND. IF they lose this year, I think it will be one of these with UCLA getting my vote as the most likely to succeed. Not because of anything else except UCLA is not a bad team and the rivalry factor might play very big.

wow hahaha all i can do is laugh to that. if you think lsu can hang with USC your insane!  LSU's secondary is not that good and leinart can pick apart extremely good secondarys like there high school players!  USC would rack up 50 points on LSU

Yeah just like he totaly picked apart Oregon and USC. they have way to many injuries and if you have a good run stopping team, I think we can take them.

No team in the country is better, but no way they go undefeated with our schedule. Once they play a top noch defense this year, then come back to me. Look at the teams they have beaten, nobody. they have played a bunch of nobodies. Wait untill they play UCLA. There is the upset right there.
