USC's 2004 BCS National Title stripped

They got to experience the thrill of kicking butt and winning an NC. I'm sure it sucks a little, but that was so long ago that I'm sure it doesn't sting too much for them.

And tOSU... At least everybody outside of Columbus thinks they didn't win that title anyway.
It'll be tough to get all the way back to them. The 'AA didn't do anything when they investigated then and now it's outside their statute of limitations.

IIRC, Notre Dame would have had a shot at playing in the BCS NC game had they not lost to USC that year, right? Or, am I thinking of the wrong season? (Year they got smoked by LSU in the Sugar Bowl, right?)

That's 2006. 2005 was the Bush Push, and a win may have been enough to push them into the title game, if that's what you're thinking of. The year in question is 2004, which was Willingham's final season.

Bama already claimed it.

Close.

Somewhere Tubs is saying it should be Auburn's.

Former Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville said Monday the Tigers should be declared retroactively as 2004-05 national champions.

"Yes," Tuberville said. "Someone should be awarded (the) title. If not, the team that had to forfeit is not really punished."

Or, leave it vacated so when people see University of Southern California listed next to 2004/05 they'll forever be reminded of the fact that USC cheated to win that year and the championship is officially vacated. Oh wait, that argument doesn't further the coach's cause. Muh bad.

First, it couldn't have happened to a better guy.

Second, are we in the clear for our '98 season? Maybe I'm just a little paranoid but NCAA seems to be out for blood lately. I was pretty young back then so I don't remember if we had any allegations floating around that may come back to haunt us.

Given that the AP isn't vacating the title, the only national champion recognized for 2004 is still USC. So this doesn't exactly accomplish a whole heckuva lot.

Read this today on VLT.

No, sadly we got caught cheating when we were 7-6 and not when we were 13-0.

Does anyone else want to play USC now? like within the next two seasons? I don't want to wait until they're decimated by the penalties to beat up on them. I think the 2012 season would be a fair matchup and a good game. Even if we lose, it would be a lot of fun.
