Using Craigslist...

One time my girlfriend decided to adopt a ferret. After a few weeks, it was pretty clear we bit off a little bit more than we wanted to chew. I put it on Craigslist free to good home and literally had about 10-15 calls and texts in 30 minutes. Ferret people are pretty odd people lets just say that.

People love free $h!+ on there. I've got rid of an old mattress, a wrecked truck bed, and some exercise bikes I had no room for.

reminds me of the 'old joke' where you put a old washing machine out front of your house and argue with the city for weeks about getting it picked up...then you put a FOR SALE, $50. sign on it and its gone in a hour...

If you think there is local demand then CL works well. If demand is more dispersed or the item is easily shippable then use eBay.

If it's specialty product and there's a forum or two for the product category you may want to see if there is a classifieds on the forums. I've sold BMW parts/accessories on BMW forums - quickest way to reach the right people.

I've never had a problem making deals on CL. As was mentioned before, make sure to meet in a public area so there is less chance of incidents.

my wife has done several transactions for baby stuff on CL and had no issues. Facebook is a good resource to check out (stalk) buyers beforehand
