UT’s offense, in the eyes of those who run it and try to defend it: ‘It’s hell to stop’

His point is the list is wrong, they also left off Oregon from this year. Oregon is 5th in scoring offense currently despite scoring 3 points against them.

First game with a new HC and QB against GA in Atlanta wasn’t going to go well regardless.

That was a very fun article to read. The author definitely knows what he is talking about and makes many references

I wouldn't say it was "thoroughly" shut down last year against Georgia. I believe we had just under 400 yards of offense but continuously shot ourselves in the foot inside or near the redzone. I feel like this year we are much better and Georgia isn't as good as they were last year too. I would love to shut the Bulldog fans up. I've never seen such arrogance from a fanbase as I have from them this year.
They're f'n horrible

Again, his point was the list was wrong. And he was right about that, at least two UGA wins against Top 10 offenses were left off the list (us last year and Oregon this year). How to best explain away those wins and discredit those wins is a different matter, but those wins do exist.

Great Article the Reference to Pittsburgh is Meh. 2nd game of the season with a lot of kinks to work out so I would not use it as a reference

Tennessee played a perfect schedule this year to setup this run. It has had the right mix of the right opponents at the right time. It has afforded building blocks for us to be where we are today. Games to fine tune with the right road game times for success.

This will be our 3rd appearance on Gameday and who would have thunk it. Nobody. The Schedule, leadership, coaching, and team continues to improve week to week. We have had the right lesser opponents in the schedule at the right time.

Pittsburgh was a physical team and our playing them I think helped us gain confidence to be able to endure and improve.

True. Still, one would think we now have more of our offense in place and Hooker and co are much more comfortable with running it. I'd also say I believe we have more talent and maturity this time around. I'm also certain that Heupel and the staff will be watching that one again and seeing what UGA did so effectively so they might be able to exploit them more this time around. I still think this one will be very tough due to the overall talent and home field advantage tho. I suspect we'll put up a better fight this time....or at least I hope we do. Maybe if a "stinker" is coming, it will be UGA that does it? Man, wouldn't it be sweet for all UT fans living in GA to be the team that knocks UGA out of the playoffs. I think that would be an early xmas gift for me and hell, I'd be thrilled with that one gift alone. So if Santa reads this board....please?

They certainly are executing it more effectively. Consider the following:

2022 Scoring (49.4 ppg), Total offense (553.0 ypg), Passing (353.4 ypg), Rushing (199.6 ypg)
2021 Scoring (39.3 ppg), Total offense (475.3 ypg), Passing (257.1 ypg), Rushing (218.2 ypg)

Conversely, if you want to see evidence of defensive improvement, consider the following:

2022 Scoring (21.0 ppg), Total offense (393.6 ypg), Passing (300.8 ypg), Rushing (92.9 ypg)
2021 Scoring (29.1 ppg), Total offense (421.7 ypg), Passing (273.2 ypg), Rushing (148.5 ypg)

So, that is an eyepopping, net improvement, offensively and defensively combined, of 18.2 ppg and, when you combine offensive and defensive stats, a net improvement of roughly 106 ypg in total offense. We also are giving up a bit more yardage passing in part because we are yielding 55.6 ypg and 0.8 ypc less on the ground, not to mention putting our opponents quickly in larger scoring deficits.

“The tempo takes all subbing out of the game, which makes you so stressed on defense, it’s unbelievable. And then they stretch you horizontally over and over again until the vertical passing game beats your ass.”

My favorite sections:

Narduzzi: “There’s really no disguising coverages against them because they split you out so wide.”

Bennett: “People say, ‘Oh it’s just a passing offense.’ Bull—-. It’s a numbers count. It’s an angles count.

I think what's taking the Tennessee offense to a new level this year is figuring out how to slow it down and chew up clock. Last year when they attempted it, it seemed like a high performance Jet struggling for efficacy at lower speeds/altitude. The problem was still there right up until the Florida game. That near-collapse seemed to spark something with Heupel. Ever since, they've been able to slow things down with a lead, without completely falling apart.
